Swimbait Rods
Anyone have any suggestions for a good/ affordable swimbait rod? Anyone using a salt water rod as a cheaper alternative? I am looking for something heavy enough to throw my SPRO BBZ which is 4.9 oz. amongst others.
If I call in sick, I am probably on the Delta.

Check the Okuma 7'11" Heavy around $109.00

+1 on the Okuma 7'11" Heavy.
Another alternative is the Dobyns Mike Long 806 that can be had for around $130-140 now I think.

+2 for the Okuma's.....also just picked up one of Matt Newman's Fig Rig rod for $99. Big stout rod and throws the Punker incredibly well!!! The Okuma 7'11" MH is a great all around swimbait rod!!

Re: Swimbait Rods
+3 -- I also have the Okuma 7'11" MH. Love it! It's their "Guide Select" series of rods. The heavy action might be a little better for the BBZ's, but my MH handles them fine. As stated above, it's a great all-around swimbait rod. If you're planning to fish similar but lighter swimbaits, and want only one rig for this application, then go with the MH.
Fishing is not a matter of life or death.
It's more serious than that!

Re: Swimbait Rods
Thank you guys for the advice. I will be placing an order for the Okuma.

Re: Swimbait Rods
The very first rod I ever threw swimbaits on was some noname inshore saltwater rod I picked up for about 60 bucks. It was rated for baits up to I think 3oz but I still chucked BBZ's Hudds with it and I still have it. I let my buddy use it when I want to go out and throw swimbaits since he doesn't have a set-up for it.
I've heard of guys using Musky rods too. Those musky guys have been throwing giant baits for ever.

Re: Swimbait Rods
I bought the 807MAG Dobyns Heavy swimbait rod, last years models were discounted and many local shops have deals with full warranty. I bought mine from Baitbarn. Its big enough to toss the biggest baits easily, my only concern is that smaller 6" or less baits would be better on the 806.
Inshore and Muskie rod swould likely work fine...and vice versa.
I bought a cardiff 400 reel with my rod and use 25lb coated flurocarbon and a 8" huddleston deluxe swimbait.
