Best Fish, When and How?

Post by texas john »

We all talk about the tough fishing in the winter time. But how weird is it that I have caught my PB in Largemouth and Smallie in the last two months.
Caught an 8 lber on the button with a lipless back inabout 15 ft of water back in Texas over chirstmas, and a 7.26 lb Smallie yesterday (1-15-09) on a pepper jig in about 35 ft of water.

Just for fun what is your PB in both!
I have not included spots but if you feel the need to put em down to feel free, mine was a 4 lb senko eater on oroville back in June 08.

BTW I am looking for someone to fish the WRL Northern or Wine divisions with this year, PM me!!

Lippy I can only imagine the fight that 7.1 Spot put up. Spots are so fun to catch cause of there never give up attitude, you never know with them spots if it is a 1 or 5 lb fish.

How about catching your two PB largemouths in the same day....twice!!! One day back in january a few years ago I was fishing a dirt canal with a terminator spinnerbait. Caught a 5lb bass that made itself my PB. About and hour later I caught a 6 1/2-7lb bass, breaking my record. That was the first time.

A couple years ago, I had to go to a work meeting at 8am and had to be back at work at noon. My work was 15 minutes away from home and I thought to myself why not do some fishing to kill some time. Went fishing to the same spot I caught my previous PB, with the same bait and slammed a 7 1/2 bass. Two casts later I caught my 8 1/2lb bass in the same exact spot as the previous bass. Think they were hanging out. Great days, great fish.

As far as my best Smallie - havnt caught one yet. Went to McClure and watched my buddy catch a little one. It was nice to actually see one in person. Only other smallie ive seen was a blow up on a spook (I think it was mine actually)...watched the bronze football swim back into the depths. This was at Don Pedro I believe.

Biggest spot was probably 3 1/2 lbs, close to 4 maybe. These numbers are all going to change this year. Catching all new pb this year and a smallie for sure, as well as getting a boat, and fishing at least 2-3 lakes I have never fished before and being successful there!!!

Any recommendations on where to go in Central California for smallies? Well, I love fishing McClure and plan on spending some time there so where in McClure should I find decent numbers of smallies? (ive been told around bagby was a good spot???)

15.48 would be a new state record for northern strain LMB. Count the lateral line pore scales; over 69 and it's a FLMB.
Any bass over 15 lbs is a true giant, very rare, congratulations.

Well all of you have me beat in the Bass but the best fish I ever cought was a Striper even though it's a Bass :)

I used fish with my Late Brother law at San Luis and we fished together there for over 20 year's.Allway's cought our limit but not much to brag about.

One day I cought a 35lb'r and it broke his net trying to land it and he was pissed at me. At that same time a boat came by with 2 older couple's and I remember one saying "See I told you there were fish in this Lake"

I will allway's remember that Fish and my Brother in law.
