I'm looking to change out my front unit. It does not have GPS. It's currently a Lowrance X125. I would like to connect the front and dash units. The dash unit is a LMS 480 w/GPS which I will have to live with for now. I want to go to color which is about the only option any more which I'm fine with, but I want to put it on the front. I could use some opinions on the new Lowrance HDS. I've heard that the internal GPS isn't very good. any thoughts Thanks

Any opinions on internal GPS are based on old units. The HDS units are a totally new unit. I wanted them on my boat but couldn't wait for them to come out. There are a lot of new features but I would be cautious with the flash. Nobody has been able to state the coverage of the new 3D mapping. I think it is very limited and you will rely on 2D mapping more than you expect. All said, I think they are better units than the LMS/LCX product but may not be worth the extra money if you can still fnd a closeout 520.
