BASSBOAT CARPET CLEANERS

Can any household carpet cleaner, or spot remover be used on bassboat carpet. What about stain removers? What has worked for you, or do you hire a carpet cleaner. I tried our home carpet cleaner, but did not get the results I was looking for.

Hey Art! I've used automotive carpet cleaner before to get the spots out, and then hit it with the high-pressure car wash. I also try to get it to the car wash at least a few times a year - seems to work pretty well.

Jordan at Anglers recommended Simple Green, and it worked.
I just do it on a warm day, so the carpet can dry after I wash it.

I use Woolite mixed with water in a bucket with a nylon brush. I don't use pressure washers just a garden hose to rinse, and a stain remover called spot shot for any grease or other stains, and never had a problem. I have heard pressure washing the carpet can cause the carpet to seperate from the deck, but I personally have never tried it so I can't say for sure.

Folex has worked the best for me on any carpet for stains. It doesn't leave any residue that will attract dirt to the same spot. Spray on, work around a little, blot with a damp towel. Home Depot was the last place I purchased it from.

used a pressure washer on mine and it became seperated from the deck.

used a product called Krudd Kutter and a stiff brush. Looked brand new when I was done. Takes a little more time to rinse, but worth the effort. Also, if you have a grease or oil spot, use Dawn dishwashing soap on it. Amazzing !!!!

You need to be careful a lot of detergents will cause you glue to lift, then your carpet will come up. I found a product called Lift Out .You can get it at auto detail shop .It will take out any dirt or stains with out hurting your carpet.

I used to own a carpet cleaning company. I must agree not to use a pressure washer. However any mild detergent (like simple green) will work fine if you don't over doo it. Remember the wetter you get it, the more chance you have of detaching the adhesive. I always used commercial products sold at carpet supply stores. boats have an indoor/outdoor type carpet. for spot removing I would use a small amount of simple green or a like cleaner bought from automotive stores. But for a complete wash out rent a carpet cleaner with a hose, and be sparing with the water you apply. Do it on a warm day to make sure it is fully dry before covering your boat. And try to rent a machine with a lot of suction. Going over the carpet with a dry towel will help it dry faster. Remember that because the top of the pile is dry doesn't mean that it's dry all the way down. Rub it firmly with your hand to make sure it's dry to the foam. The foam will hold some water also, so take that into consideration.
