Nick, Check out this link (Click on BBC Boards and scroll down). You should be able to find something in the Merc Forum.

barse41,
The immediate answer is the relay switch, which you can contact your dealer for parts. A quick replacement of the switch will get it working in no time.

But really, we need more info. to fully understand what your problem is.

What exactly happens?
When you try to go up, do you hear anything? is there any noise or is it dead quiet?
Do you have more than 1 switch? did you try all?
When you say it goes down, do you mean that you just hear noise, or do you actually see the pistons going down?

Try lifting the motor by hand and locking it up. then go and try the switch to go up. do the pistons move now without the load of the motor? If so, then you don't have a relay switch problem, but could have a leak, a piston problem, or could just need more oil.

Give some feedback, so we can help further.

Same relay for both. If you hit and it clicks and don't move, it's your relay. Also it's a good idea to replace both at the same time.

There are two relays, one for up and one for down. Sounds like the one is out. But why not replace both, they are not that expensive. There is the possiblility that your trim switch is bad on one side also. Bill K :)

next time you have the handle off be sure to look for a split wire. Had this happen last year, not sure how it happened but it did. A quick splicing together of the wires and all was fine! Thanks to C&C Marine for the heads up on this one.
