I caught about 15 last week on a chatterbait. I have caught 1 all year on a spinnerbait. Its amazing how much confidence I have gained this year in those stinking chatterbaits, and to think I had em in my boat all last year and threw em just a handfull of times. Still ZERO confidence in the spinnerbaits.

Medium retreive on 5:4 to1 with light 12lb floro. I found a color that works and is not an original chatterbait is one of the booya boogie baits. I have tryed jigging it off the bottom but have not had the success im having on the straight cast and retrieve.

I use to throw spinnerbaits alot. Once the chatterbait came out, it has taken the place of my spinnerbait. I have a rod rigged with a spinnerbait, but hardly use it. I use the chatterbait over weedbeds because it can easily go over the top of the weeds without picking up a ton of junk. I use it with a "stop and go" retrieve. Besides black bass, I've caught several stripers with them.

On the other hand, my regular fishing buddy hates them because he hasn't caught one fish on them. He see me catching fish with them but he doesn't know why he can't catch any fish with them.

+1

I cant get any bumps on a chatter. But as soon I toss a spinnerbait, I get smacked by LMB.

I think they are 2 different presentations. I catch bass on both. The chatter might be more versatile as far as fishing it more like a jig but it doesn't look anything like a double willow blade as far as looking like several baitfish. As mentioned before I think confidence is the key. It just seems that if you have the confidence in a bait you tend to present it better. I too have had more success with the chatter on a steady or stop & go retrieve as opposed to fishing it like a jig. I personally will pick up a double willow blade before a chatter because it is a bigger profile and I like fishing bigger baits.

I too wish to hook larger fish and have had quite a bit of success with larger fish on the chatterbait. No giants mind you but plenty of fish in the 3-4 lb range.

I've thrown chatterbaits til my arms were sore, with every kind of trailer you can imagine at every depth. Not a bite. I hate em, but after everyone else's success, I'll keep trying. I have a fish off challenge this year. A friend is going to use chatterbaits and I get to pick my lure. I'm using Senkos. I'll even let him have the front.

When working a chatterbait similar to a spinnerbait with a stop and go retrieve is it better to have rod tip down or up? When working it like this do you use spinnerbait colors - white/chartreuse, white - or jig colors - green pumpkin, black/blue?

For me, it depends upon the area I'm fishing. If I'm fishing where there's less than two feet of water over a weed bed, I keep the tip of the rod up. If I'm fishing areas where I have more than 2 feet of water, I fish with the tip down. My favorite color is the chartreuse/white chatterbait.

The chatterbait is my go-to for CUTTHROAT TROUT to 5#s.

I am beginning to really like them at night. Daytime as well. Lures are just tools for me. Each has pluses and minuses.

I never get these questions. They are different baits. A blade to me is still great, and represent any type of baitfish with the right combination. I throw spinnerbaits (blades) all year long, and they do great. On the other hand, to me a chatter bait is different. Different action, different cover attributes, different vibration pattern and water disturbance. They look similiar but perform different functions. I throw whatever the fish or conditions dictate. :)
