Shimano 201 E series?

Post by Vince Borges »

So recently I have switched all of my reels to Shimano Core's, nine of them,( except my flipping reels are all Chronarch 51MG's) I am in need of 3 more reels. So what I am thinking is taking the Core's I have off of my crank, rip, and blade rod and putting them to use on my other rods. I am thinking of replacing them with the new Curados. I have been totaly spoiled by the weight of the Cores and love them, But its hard to justify buying three more at $1,000.00 + for reaction type rods. So my question is how well does the new Curado work throwing light cranks, and does anybody use one on their frog rod, if so, how durable do you think it would be on a frog rod?

Thanks
Vince

The new curados cast like a dream. And I love the wider spool. They're pretty light, so you're not looking at that much of a change from the core. I think they're 7:1 reels though, so you might want to look at slower reels. The 200e5 is a 5:1 and the 300e is a 6.2:1.

They are worth every penny in my opinion.

Vince, you will not be disappointed with the Curado. I retooled all of my reels and went with the Curado. 7.1 for everything other than deep crankin and I use a 5.1. I still use bigger calcuttas for swimbaits and the castaic super frees for flippin but I love the new curade e's.

Why not stick to the MG51's for light cranking?
Tacklewarehouse has them on sale right now for $186+tax.

If you are throwing light cranks cranks go with the E5. I dont like fishing smaller cranks on a 7:1, but thats me. It handles all the warts, and RC's and coffin bills no sweat. You can launch them on the right rod. You need to try the Core flipping reels. HEAVEN. Im beyond spoiled by these reels.

I have a 200 7:1 DHSV for the frog and havent had any problems with the braid folding the spool. I havent tried the new E7 but id imagine it would be better than the DHSV.
