Lowrance X25c & Minnkota Universal Sonar Issues???

Post by Jeff Garmenson »

I have the above combo and believe the built in sonar may be the reason for a lack of detail from a graph that gennerally has exceptionaly high definition. I have a similar graph at the helm (LMS-332C) with the thru hull transducer and the detail is crisp with minimal manual adjustment. But the one on the universal sonar will not manually adjust to a likable or should I say livable detail no matter how much fine tuning I do.

I wonder if anyone else can attest to this :?: Are the universal sonars less than efficient for a high end graph such as mine :?:
Before I waste any money on a typical surface mounted puck to see if it makes a differnece, Could the graph be defective :?:

Your opinions are always helpfull, Thanks

Jeff,

Your X25 will definitely show as good or better (depending on depth) than your 332, so something is wrong. I'm not sure how you are judging the detail that you comment on...is it because you don't see the same objects or fish that you are seeing on the rear?

As I recall from a previous boat I had with universal sonar, the cone angle on the universal sonar was much smaller than a standard Lowrance transducer, which will limit your view compared to your other transducer.

The simplest way to figure out what is going on is to temporarily hook your 332 up to your universal sonar, or else hook your X25 to your rear transducer, and compare the screen displays.

As far as purchasing a puck transducer for the front, I would not hesitate to do so if I were you. It is nice to have a spare that you can slap over the universal sonar if it breaks (especially during a tournament).

ciao,
Marc
