How would you rule on this?

Post by Brian D. »

At a recent R6 Fed event at Lake Hodges two fishermen cast near the same stickup with cranks. One fisherman says, I'm on! A 1/2 second later, the co-angler in the back says I'm on, as well. Since they both had fish on at the same time no one went for the net. As they continued reeling in their fish closer to the boat, it was apparent that they were both fighting the same fish! The co-angler in the back of the boat eventually netted the fish. Looking at the fish, the first angler's crankbait was deep in the fishes mouth the co-angler's crank was in the upper lip.

So, given this circumstance who should get to keep the fish?

they themselves should come to an agreement! If they cannot the director should make a choice given the circumstances. I believe it is which bait is deeper in the fishes mouth should prove which bait was eaten first. Hopefully it wasn't a biggin!!!!

Shared weight format = Shared fish weight.

I'd cut the fish in two. :D

The Fed isn't share weight..Interesting situation though..Even if the boaters bait was deep inside the fishes mouth isn't a sure sign that bait was the first to be taken although it might seem so..I would tend to believe this is the case myself..Just curious how was it decided..

heres my shot at this.

Post by some guy »

my guess is the deeper hooked bait was the first one to be taken. Since they casted so close to the stick up the first fish probably ate and ran sideways into the other guys line and the crank slide up the line until it found the face, hence the upper lip hook job.

Deeper wins.

Netting the fish means nothing. The second hook up occurred because the second cast went over the first casts line or the fish swam under the second cast. Once the second cast is over the the first it will follow the line to the fish.

The first person to hook up has the right to the fish.

Tug o' war  //// who ever made the first cast to the spot and loaded up first.. People should show some better manners and not throw right on top of anothers persons bait.

The bait deeper in the mouth.
Since I am a td for the fed that is my rulling.
When I worked on the saltwater boats a long time ago that was the rule as well. It is still the rule today.

Do the King Solomon Way!

Clearly one angler has the right to the fish, but which one? Any true Anglers can appreciate the difficulty of this position.
Give the problem to the TD he should be the judge! And failure to provide justice in this difficult case would set the tone for the rest of the tournament tour.

The TD needs to order “Cut the fish in half and give one part to each fisherman. You will hear whisper and rumbling through the crowd of other Anglers. They will know what this means, the fish will be dead and each angler will be assess a loss in there weight because of the dead fish rule.

The true Angler that loves the sport of fishing will not be able to see the fish being killed and will give up his right to the fish. He then would receive the fish for his bag.

The TD wisdom will be immediately obvious to everyone present, and his reputation will spread throughout the fishing kingdom. But this is just a fable – let them fight to the death.

I guess it would be who every has the biggest gun in their tackle bag

I would think the first guy to hook up.. if all else fails .. coin flip

Leave the hooks in the bass and have a tug of war with the two rods, if your line breaks, you don't get the fish, plain and simple

The outcome....

Post by Brian D. »

Fortunately this decision did not have to get ruled by a TD, nor did the fishermen have to resort to fisticuffs. The two fishermen discussed the situation several times throughout the day and they agreed that the first fisherman (who had the bait deeper in the mouth) was to keep and weight the fish. It was a decent 2.5 lb keeper which helped the fisherman to get in the top 5 and a check.

And now you know the rest of the story.

.............Good Day!

Well this same thing did happen to me! and it was a draw format of non-shared weight!
I made a check with that fish of better then four pounds and I know that guy had still not made the journey back to the weigh in site as of the time I pulled out of Big Break!
I know I did leave him on that Island with a couple of sandwiches and a half bottle of yellow Gatoraid along with his tackle but It was my boat and thats the way it was! I heard there had been sitings of a mad fisherman in that area even three years later but he did not file a protest within the time restraints so I guess it was my fish!!!lol  :o
