Any one use Centennial Batteries??
Any one use Centennial Batteries??
Anyone running Centennial batteries. Any issues or problems and how good are they?? I am getting the boat up and running again after sitting for a few years and need to purchase new batteries. I am spending a hugh chunk of change to get the engine cleaned up and running. After comparing all three batteries, here is what I have found. The Centennials seem to be a better deal for the money with a higher reserve capacity. I am not going to fish the Delta, mainly lakes and will probably go out once or twice a month. What do you think I should get??
Centennials - $100
Cold Cranking Amps - 800
Reserve Capacity - 225
Cranking Amps - 1000

Trojans - $160
Cold Cranking Amps - 720
Reserve Capacity - 190
Cranking Amps - 950
Optima - $185
Cold Cranking Amps - 900
Reserve Capacity - 155
Cranking Amps - 1125

I use Centennials. Dry cells. had them three years and no issues. They charge properly and show no signs of fatigue. I also keep them on the charger when the boat is not in use.

I run four OPTIMA group 31's, they are lighter than the other brands, and maintain their run time longer than the others. The biggest OPTIMA Blue top only weighs 56 pounds, which is anywhere from 7 to 14 pounds lighter than the other batteries mentioned.
OPTIMA doesn't fade as the other batteries do, they maintain their peak output, allthe way through the reserve capacity until they die.
One thing to remember with OPTIMA's is that they will discharge down to 5 volts, deeper into the capacity than most other batteries, and then some on board chargers won't read them in order to re-charge.
All you have to do at that point is put a second, manual charger on that battery to bring the battery back up to 8 volts so the on board charger can read it and start charging.
I've done this once, when I left my Power Switch on for a month after an outing. I contacted OPTIMA, asked what to do, they told me to do the above, and the battery has been great since; I just need to remember to turn off the power switch.

I got tired of refilling my trojans and actually had one leak acid into the boat, so I wanted to replace them with a completely sealed battery. Like you say, Centennials had the best price for the equivalent amp hours. If you're near Sacramento try Battery Systems, they have very good prices.

When I bought my boat (used) the seller put in 3 new Interstate batteries for me. The cranking battry lasted only one season, the TM batteries lasted about 1 1/2. Went to Les Schwab batteries, they lasted about 3. I now have 3 WallyWorld Everstarts, no probs so far... if it weren't for environmental concerns, the Interstates woulda made good structure somewhere...Nick_Barr wrote:Check out the Interstate Batteries, $100 bucks for a 1000MCA 185 Reserve.

Call me at 818-404-0266 interstate and optimas at my dealer cost. Centennial makes a "black box" battery equivalent to Trojans. But because I didn't sell enough Battery Systems cancelled my account. I run Interstate SRM29's for my trolling motor with no problems. If you have the funds Optimas are worth the money and my prices on them beat most internet prices ( they will be new, not refurbished). Every one has pros and cons about every battery manufacturer. As long as you check water levels, make terminal post are clean, have a good battery charger and charge them as soon as possible after useage you should have very few problems.
