Fishing line?

Post by Grnbasser »

How often should I be changing my fishing line? How can I tell if it should be replaced. I usually change mine once every month and probably only use it around 2-3 times/mos. Is this an overkill or maybe should I use it longer?

I’m don’t do my that offend – come to think about it I do my once a year. I do reveries in on the spool about 6 months. I do check it for nicks and will cut off a few yards but not all of it.

you use your line 2 to 3 times a month? Kinda over kill. You should be able to tell if you need to or not based on your last outing.

unless you do not have enough reels and you just finished fishing berryessa and now going to clear lake or even the delta then I could see why.

if your reels hold about 100 -120 yards I say just pull off the first 6-12 ft. and snip! pulling off 6 - 12ft. off a reel that holds 100 yards of line is fine!

the only time I may respool early is if i notice a fray in my line while I made a long cast or during a retreive.

I was mostly concerned with line memory, especially say when fishing weightless senkos. I was thinking it would be harder detecting subtle bites. I do use 5 rods on deck and almost use them all equally in a given day. Maybe I'm just being too anal.

You should try using florocarbon on your senko's, no memory, and it sinks...

it depends on the kind of line. i don't think i've ever replaced my braid unless i've run out of line on the reel. fluoro is replaced a little more frequently and mono is replaced the most. i usually replace line when there is not enough left on the reel (except mono - but i still don't have a set period)
