what do the # of guides on a rod have to do with the construction of a rod?

Guide placement

Goofed on the first reply. OK, the guides determine where the stress and bend is placed on the rod. More rods=more even. I suggest you go to Mudhole Tackle web site on rod building. There is a lot there under guide placement.
