Anyone know about Flaming Gorge?
Headed there the second week of june any help that has info other than trout would be great.
Have been up that way a few times but we have an offer to stay near buckboard with some friends so I want to drag the boat along.
Hear the smallies fish well there are there any largies on the lake anywhere?
Am I hitting the spawn or are we looking at still cold water winterlike patterns since we still have snow here I have to wonder lol.
Thanks

one piece of advice... watch the weather.. was there a couple years ago and noticed several boats heading for marina .. water flat calm ... 15 minutes later knew why boats were leaving .. three to four ft swells came up very quickly .. the rest of the time if we saw locals heading back we followed.. can get pretty rough.. can't help you with the smallies as we were there fishing for lake trout..

The Gorge has no largemouth. The smallies come on beds in mid to late June. You should have a great time.........

Although the lake is huge ( very long)..it fishes very small for smallies... if they are up spawning it's a easy bite, because they don't see many baits..throw a watermelon 4" lizard or a watermelon/red brushhog and you will be king...anything that wiggles they will kill.. I fished a BASS tournament there a few years back and I wouldn't go back unless it is for trout..you can catch huge trout on most ripbaits...especially clown color...I would go for the trout..

Re: Anyone know about Flaming Gorge?
Use some brown tubes on rocky island tops with light line.
Re: Anyone know about Flaming Gorge?
They will be mid-late spawn depending on the weather. Probably the best time of year to fish that pond. Pointers, rattle-baits, and the king of all Gorge baits is a white yammy grub slow rolled on a darter head over the grass. The fish are generally bigger on the WY side than the UT side. Grass w/rock is the key, stay off the steep chunk rock. FYI: for you Californites a ripbait/grub combo will probably win the divisionals there in a few weeks. It will take 11-12lbs a day. The guys running the Bird 997's or 1187's will have the advantage.

I forgot to mention Buckboard Bay behind the marina probably has the best bedfishing in the entire lake.........
