Pictures - Two Recent Trips on the River

Post by Bob La Londe »

FyrFytr and I hit the river Thursday for half a day. It was an awesome day on the water. We only caught 12-14 keepers, but we had a steady bite all day long. With the overcast it never got really hot. There wasn't much of a topwater bite or a frog bite. I got three rolls and one keeper on a popper early. FyrFytr nailed a decent one on a frog later in the day. Except for a decent fish I let get away on a crankbait around noon, we pretty much caught them all flipping. Every place we went we caught a few fish and got bit. Lots of 1-2 pound fish. Our biggest landed might have been 3.

If I didn't have work to do we probably would have stayed out all day.

And I got another fishing with Bob picture. LOL.

bassctchr1 and I hit Mittry Friday afternoon. I was convinced there was a Working Man tournament for some reason. We were suprised to only find a few other fun fish anglers on the water. Oh, well. We were there anyway so we went fishing. The first place we tried produced two strikes flipping and I boated our first keeper. Fat 1.5. We ground through the area for another 45 minutes to an hour and picked up nothing else. Enroute to our next spot I chunked a crankbait out to a bit of isolated cover and whacked a 3+.

Then we spent an hour working a well know flipping stretch. I flipped and frogged it only having one (that I saw) swirl on the frog and nothing flipping. bassctchr1 spotted a swirl I didn't see as I pulled out my frog and pitched in to boat this nice 4+.

After flailing away at the water madly in all directions with our lines making the boat look like a windmill with strings on the ends of the blades for a while longer we headed back to another stretch I like. We flipped cranked, and I started tossing a wake bait. I had what looked like a pretty good fish blow up on my bait, but wasn't able to hook up. bassctchr1 did a bit of improvisation and used a technique called popping a crank. He tossed his crankbait over to were I had missed that fish and started twitching it on the surface instead of reeling it in. KAPLOOSH! He managed his second keeper of the evening and a solid 3+.

Since there was no tournament bassctchr1 wanted to get home at a reasonable hour. We had initially agreed to pull off the water at 7:pm, but after his ccrank popping fish we decided to fish a little longer. I switched to a popper and manged 3 more solid fat keepers including one pushing 3 pounds.

Over all a lot of fun. It was not an onfire bite, but it was nice to get some explosions on top and see bassctchr1 catch a couple good fish.
Looking at trying to get out again this evening to see if I can find that elusive topwater bite.
