No, Galen released it alive. It was kept in a cage under a dock in Discovery Bay for several days so it could be documented. That is why you see so many great pictures of this fish. He did have a fiber glass mount made, but it looked different as it was based on a 19# fish from So-Cal that was much shorter and had a bigger belly. He did end up with a beautiful mount though.

Chuck Spurlock had a 17.5# in a tournament back in the 90s. I cannot find any info on that fish, but I was there and saw the beast. I thought I heard it was the biggest at that time.

Galen Jensen caught that fish in February and ISE was doing a show at the Pleasanton Fair Grounds and everyone including Fish and Game wanted to put the fish on display in the demo tank. I threw a fit and wouldn't let it happen, the ISE folks didn't like and couldn't understand it but I was so afraid that something would happen and that fish would die during the show.

I could only imagine the amount of bad press that we would get and rightly deserve for using this fish to make money and get people to come to the show. Shortly after the show started on that Thursday, Galen let it go back in the Delta where it belonged.

That was some awesome fish!!!!!

I saw one that big or bigger when practicing for the STREN Delta last week in a cove/marina.

I went as a CO and my pro partner I practiced with tried to go there the first day of the derby. He told me he was run out of the cove by ISH. Ish was fishing into the cove/Marina.

She is still in that cove because no one weighed in a teener. That's the biggest bass I have ever seen in the wild. Sea Monster for sure.

I was driving over to Bonanza to pick up a High Lift jack, they were not open. For the heck of it, I drove on to the Hook just to see what was new.

That was the moment the fish came in, in the boat livewell.

"When someone said, "Its a big fish.." I was thinking salmon striper etc.

Galen pulled around back, and I heard Gene call out the official weight. A big whoop/war cry went up, from the small group.

I stuck my head in the back room to see what the heck was going on.

The fish was unreal. There are pictures, but it was so freaky and huge. Words are pretty lame trying to describe it.

Awesome fish.

I knew I would never see any fish like it again in my lifetime.
