How are you guys bow mounting Humminbird 900 series units?
How are you guys bow mounting Humminbird 900 series units?
What would be the best way to mount a 957 on the bow of a z series ranger. Would you mount directly to the floor, heavy duty ram, or smaller ram? also the humminbird book says to use wood screws and silicone, is this enough or would you thru bolt them?

Here is a link to the RAM mount I've used for the 997:

However, if I were doing it over I would see if they have one that fits with the next size up rubber ball. The one above has a 1.5" ball and I believe they make one with a 2.25" ball, which is the one they recommend for the 1197si. The reason why I would look for the larger ball is that sometimes the unit slips down a bit in really rough water. I guess it will depend on how rough your water gets and your tolerance for occasionally readjusting it. I don't know for sure if they make the right bottom plate for the 997 with a 2.25" ball but I would look into it.
Also, I just used wood screws to mount the ball to the deck but if I could get under the deck I'd use bolts to make it more secure.
Alternatively you could just mount it to the deck with the regular gimbal mount, but then you lose a lot of the adjustability. Also, I like the RAM because it's easy to remove it from the base and lock it in a compartment.
