Franks Tract to Close

Post by richdoe »

As we know, Arnie is closing most of the state parks to spank us for voting "No" on Prop 1A. Included in the closure is Franks Tract. From today's Chronicle:

"-- Franks Tract State Recreation Area: This is one of the best launch points for bass fishing in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, as well as for kayaking, canoeing and birdwatching."

I wasn't aware that Franks Tract was a state park.

There's the link. They stole the description from Fish Sniffer.

What part of the tract are they actually talking about? I'm assuming they're talking about closing an area of land somewhere. Don't know where it is.

I am wondering just how they are going to close it..There sure as heck aren't any gates to close and lock..They don't have park rangers there regulating entry, are they going to put some there to prevent entry..As far as I know the state doesn't have any launch ramps on Franks Tract..Of course I guess they could close the state park across the river..

Kind of interesting that when things get tight you always hear politicians talking about reducing police, fire, education and parks but never a word about eliminating positions in the capitol, cutting marginal programs or cutting welfare payments down. They use fear to drive higher taxes. People need to be tough and refuse to buckle under. We have a government out of control and out of cash.

The only State Park / launch area I know of is Brannan Island.

I wonder if they are referring to that?

Brannon Island State Park is also on the list. So Franks Tract must be different.

Looks like it is the flooded island itself. It can't really be closed since there isn't anything there to close.

It's not a State Park--it's an SRA, like Folsom Lake SRA and Brannan Island SRA.

But unlike Folsom or Brannan Island, I don't think the State spends money to maintain anything on Franks (what's there to maintain on a flooded island?). There's no State maintained marina, campground or services on Franks, just private marinas over the levee to Franks--how or what can can be closed?

They cant "close it". what the can do is stop funding all government funded ammenities like public ramps, maintenance(spraying), recreation parks etc. They cant close it to boat traffic.

Maybe they will stop killing the weeds now, where will the money come from for the poison?

Amen to that ,but I think they will get assistance from DWR when it comes to the weed treatment.

Franks is an SRA (State Recreation Area) that is managed through the Brannan Island office. When you see a patrol boat other than the sheriff it is most likely from Brannan. The duck blind permits are really about all that I can think of that the office regulates.I'll bet they still want a chunk of cash for the permit even though they won't be doing any patrolling or enforcement during the season.

It's not really, although through eminant domain, somewhere along the line the state took control of what land is now beneath the water line of the old Frank's Track island. There really is no Park, nor a state run launch on Bethel Island.

There's no way they can afford to close off water access to Franks. Think about this, they are closing Parks due to lack of funding and budget cuts. This would mean to shut down maintinance and release personel. Course, they prolly got some clown running this ghost park, who's prolly gonna loose his job now! HAR! HAR !HAR! To police and prevent boating access, this would involve huge costs to the state.

As other have stated, they can't close the track without spend a ton of money.

My guess is it they put it on the list to make anyone who doesn't know sqat about Franks think they are actually doing something....when they know it's a ruse!

I could be wrong!

Our state is so screwed up. We are laying off teachers and closing state or local parks and they still find ridiculous amounts of money to waste. California Air Resources Board is trying to get older trucks off of the road and if you meet the pretty weak requirements you can turn in an old diesel semi truck that has absolutely no value and they will give you $50,000.00 toward a new truck (CEECAT PROGRAM). Our brilliant Governor also signed a bill to take trucks off the road based on age. It is very unclear what the rules are but if you bought a new truck in 1994 and did not alter it our state feels they have the right to tell you you can't run it after 2011. I wish the whole program made a little sense but in tough economic times and unemployment so high I feel that our elected officials are clueless

Look around and see how govenment is growing and spending (The only job in town, so to speak) but the working person and private business (other than big business) are cutting back, watching their budget and doing with less. The fed's especially are out of touch. Bil K

That is what I am thinking as well -- The State will not be permiting and providing the basic blinds and personal lock/rights to hunt exclusively from this year for FT.

And I have no clue if it is allowed to hunt Private inside FT at the same time. I am "thinking" it is not allowed as it is under the draw/permit reg's inside SRA rules/reg's along with DFG's.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.
