Delta Summer Pattern?
Delta Summer Pattern?
I was hoping you guys could explain what a summer pattern is on the delta. this is my first year fishing the delta and first time experiencing this sort of transition. what do the bass do that differs from any other pattern, like spring or fall. what do they do and why do they do it? any help is appreciated. thanks.

Re: Delta Summer Pattern?
Well, for me, my summer pattern is this ... I usually get up a bit later, have some breakfast. Flip on the TV and try to find a game to watch. If not, I'll turn on the radio and list to the Giants game or something like that. In the Fall and Winter, I'll try to watch the Niners. But if they suck, I'll go fishing!Austen wrote:I was hoping you guys could explain what a summer pattern is on the delta. this is my first year fishing the delta and first time experiencing this sort of transition. what do the bass do that differs from any other pattern, like spring or fall. what do they do and why do they do it? any help is appreciated. thanks.

Re: Delta Summer Pattern?
Dude, I was in your position about 3 years ago when i started fishing the delta. And although I know you don't want to hear this, you just need stick with it, you'll find em some days and somedays you won't.
Try to crank the current or just outside of it, wacky senkos seem to work well too. And as hard as it is to do, try to fish deeper maybe along the break line, 10-12 ft. jus my 2cents, good luck

Re: Delta Summer Pattern?
Haven't got it all figured out myself, but here are some guidelines to consider:
Good luck out there!
Roger
- * Inside weedlines on incoming/high tides
* Outside weedlines and holes on outgoing tides
* Cranks, jigs and plasics on the rip rap
* Jigs and senkos in the tules, as deep as you can get 'em
* Topwater in the morning and evening
* Frogs in the cheese, weeds and pockets all day
* Swimbaits following #1, #2, #3 and #4
Good luck out there!
Roger
Tight lines forever!

For this year, anyway, don't fall in love with one particular style... try them all and find what works on that particular day in those particular conditions, and don't be afraid to change it up. From what I've heard, this season hasn't played out like typical years, and has a lot of guys thrown off many days.

Re: Delta Summer Pattern?
Isn't that just our luck Roger; just as soon as we move here the fishing deteriorates on the Delta!!! Hopefully next year will be better.
I sure wish this wind would calm down some and soon!!

Re: Delta Summer Pattern?
Austen....try boat docks and slips on main rivers , this is where ya find the deeper water with current near by and shade, and there a lil less choked off with grass than the docks and slips in the smaller sloughs, although grass helps too as long as ya got the room to fish these structures.
Re: Delta Summer Pattern?
Just my luck as usual John... I seem to shut the bite down where ever I go!SKTR 20i wrote:Isn't that just our luck Roger; just as soon as we move here the fishing deteriorates on the Delta!!! Hopefully next year will be better.

Austen, the bass here are no different, than a bass anywhere else. After the "post spawn", the majority of the fish will move completely out of the flat spawning areas and relate or spend the biggest part of their time in or very near deeper water.Austen wrote:I was hoping you guys could explain what a summer pattern is on the delta. this is my first year fishing the delta and first time experiencing this sort of transition. what do the bass do that differs from any other pattern, like spring or fall. what do they do and why do they do it? any help is appreciated. thanks.

In the dead end sloughs, the typical hang out is the big grass beds out behind ya in the middle of the slough. Out in the main sloughs, rock walls with deep drops off the banks with ledges and breaks, and especially the points. Also, the tulle islands out in the middle of these same sloughs will be productive. Those with deep drops and unseen extended points at the ends of the islands. Fishing the outer tulle walls along the big flooded lakes with good depth is also very rewarding.
You'll also find a lot of fish getting under neath the various canopies here where the "punchin' technique is very popular. This could be the Red leaf, Hippie grass, Elodia cheese matts, Perrywinkle, Duck weed, Pond weed and Hyacinth. A lot of this stuff you can do various things around like punching a heavey weighted bait right through it, flippin' the outer edges, tossin' a frog over and around it, as well as fishing any topwater bait on the outer edges. Some days you'll find a great paddle tail swimbait bite on the outer edge of this stuff.
