July 4th is Free Fishing Day

July 4th is one of the Free Fishing Days here in California so if you can get a non fishing friend on the water this is the weekend to do it where they won't need a license.

Wow thats great they finally put it on a holiday weekend (prob so they don't have to pay extra OT for fish and game to enforce the law so much that day)

Everyone should try to take someone out that day even to a local pond to catch dinkers. I have introduced 2 new youngsters to the sport in the past 2 months and it was so awsome to explain how catch and release is so important especially on small impoundments. One guy is hooked and has been out several times after buying his yearly license and even caught a few good ones.

My boat won't see water until next week, it's going to be crazy on the delta this weekend. No biggie, I don't take it out on the weekend ever anyway so it doesn't bother me too much.

The Striper bite is crazy off the beaches near San Francisco right now, great way to avoid the crazy traffic on the Delta.

The sout beach right next to the Pacifica Pier is producing numerous Stripers daily, I have seen fish up to 40 lbs. Any type of 1 or 2 ounce hair raiser will boost your odds.
