That would depend on where on the blank it was missing. It will regardless. However, how it does will depend where
it is missing from, and whether it is a casting or spinning rod.

NOT GOOD.

Explaination: I'm really just making up the terminology here, but I hope it helps explain.

The easist way to explain it would be to break the rod guides up into two groups, casting/retrieving guides and load guides. Casting guides would essentialy be the guides towards the top of the rod, because they are having the most influence during the cast. Load guides would be the guides that come into play when the rod is under load (technically that it all of the guides, but the guides along the back bone do most of the work and have the most pressure exerted on them.

So pretty much the guide you are missing is a bad one to have missing if you plan on catching fish; however if you just plan to cast and retrive without catching anything, then it shouldn't matter a whole lot :P

Either way, the line will rub on the guide frame, which is not smooth and polished like the insert is......if you're mising the guide completely then you just have a long section of rod that is not absorbing the stress on the rod evenly, and may cause it to break.

Long story short, whether you're missing a guide or just the insert, get a new one wrapped on and you'll be back in business!

Most tackle stores wrap guides, I use Sacramento Pro the cost is a vairiable on the type of guide it is but typically 20.00. Not having that guide will end up causing you a snapped rod or lost fish as you are putting uneven stress on the blank. Have it wrapped, well worth the 20.00 and your on your way.

If you want to do it yourself, check out mudhole.com, but obviously you would have to pay shipping on top of the guide price and it would probably be easier to have a local shop do it for you.
