Precisely. Information about a new product. Good, bad or indifferent; that's up to the folks that use them to decide.

Soon enough folks will be fishing with them. That's when I'll fine tune my hearing about effectiveness vs. cost. Until then I have no judgment one way or another. I haven't seen 'em, felt 'em or fished with 'em as of yet.

+1... if you're like me and satisfied with the brand/style you currently use, then stick with them. It is the consumer's prerogative to decide what products fit within their goals and budgets... I'm sure many will buy 'em up, and others won't see the value to make the leap.

It's all good...

I’m sure they are good hooks. But for that price they should come with a hot bikini wearing brunette to retie them for you when you break one off…………. 8)

Not trying to be negative sTony, just having fun with it.

I have not even seen one in person.

When you factor in all the costs of time on the water, especially in a contest the cost of even a premium hook is damn near nothing.

At first I bought bulk packs of middle grade hooks, figuring I was going through a bunch of them and it was the smart thing to do. Later, I just gave them away to kids at fishing promotions. They were not worth losing a single fish in a contest. The bargain really wasn't one after all.

Carlos Delgado had a neat lesson in hooks for me as well. He had one bad box of premium hooks that looked brand new. I asked him about it because it just looked kinda weird. That was his tournament set or box that he only used for money tournaments, period. He might have fished with resharpened stuff during the week, but his tourney stuff was pristene.

The absolute best thing about premuim hooks is this, "don't tell you buddy." I can spout this in any bait shop especially among the guys going panfishing. I get one guy aside and talk to him. They usually buy Eagle Claw snells with the trout guy on the card, or maybe some long shanks.

"Hey you wanna kick you buddy's rear today? Try out these Gammies just the right size for your bluegills. They turn nibbles and bait stealers into fish. Just tie them on, and don't tell your your fishing buddy what is different. He is gonna think you are the best godamn fisherman on the planet and will never figure it out."

Works every time, the guys that get the killer hooks are always happy, and buy more.

:D

I remember just a couple of years ago when I said there is no need for me to be spending $16.99 on a Stacee 90 when i can just about the same action and bait from a Rapala X-RAP Shad for less than 1/2 the money. Here just a couple of years later and I have boxes full of Lucky Craft stuff. The fact is some stuff just works better than others, plan and simple. I know nothing about these hooks except what I have read on here and Tony's initial post. Will I try them? Who knows, just like others have said if they work we will probebly all end up with them in our boxes!!!

I just noticed on the picture, that the flippin hook doesn't have a welded eye? BMF is welded, and no chance for braid to get caught and cut in the crack... Hmmm Something else to think about.

I don't care how sharp they are, once they get in the rocks it is throw away or sharpen, and how do you do that with a multi- sided hook. Sorry kb just another negative thought but this price is over the top.

kb wrote:I find the negativity really odd regarding these hooks. IF you are fishing with $1000 to $4000 invested in an entry fee plus expenses and these hooks are that much better then why not. I am sure that each of you that are negative about this product has a $40 swimbait, $250 to $350 rod, $7 dollar tungsten weight that weighs an ounce and half, won't a lead weight that weighs an ounce and half work????

One guy questioned the hooks and then has a sponsor link to $30 dollar fishing line on his page.....one guy is turned off by the aggressiveness of the ad campaign but is he turned off by a tournament circuit paying $35,000 more if you are using their boat and you have to buy it new at retail but there pro staff is eligable for the same prize.

Is this the hook you need to compete on the Wednesday turkey shots? Probably not but they are going to have a place in your tackle boxes.......right next to your thousands of dollars of swimbaits that you haven't caught on one.......

C'mon guys!
kb

Well said KB, 50k boats, 400$ rods, 300$ reels, 30$ for line, 10$ for a weight, $1.50 for your jackall cover craw and you can't spend $2.50 on a hook?

I got my 5.0 flipping hooks and plan to test them out at Santa Margarita next week!
All 4 packs are in the hook box!

Comparing EWG Hooks (for Now)
Although I am not familiar with All of the below listed EWG hooks at least four of them have the same design flaw in that the shank and barb are level. Most everyone that is fishing them at a high level is either opening them or off setting the barb with pliers to get better drive on hook sets. Some rip larger holes and don't have the barb hold needed after penetration. EWG hooks often drag before penetration and sometimes skin hook fish that come unbuttoned.

"Gami - EWG - 2.69 (6 pack) .44 per hook
Yamamoto Sugoi Hook - 5.99 (10 pack) .59 per hook
Mustad EWG - 3.19 (5 pacK) .64 per hook
Owner Wide Gap - 3.19 (5 pack) .64 per hook
XCalibur Tx3 - 2.59 (5 pack) .52 per hook
Youvella Offset Wide Gap - 2.99 (5 pack) .60 per hook

The TroKar - EWG - $9.99 (5? pack) 1.99 per hook (price from a site currently selling them)"
TroKar has conquered these issues with by far the best TOTAL design I have ever handled throughout there line. Looking at them there are subtle changes that will give the TroKar advantages.

In playing with them at the show, freaky sharp, when pushed through skin the barb held solid, Heck I bled for a while too, with a clean punture wound!

No they are probably not an everyday option for most yet. As mentioned here earlier, either was tungsten, 20 dollar crankbaits and 100 dollar plus swimbaits.

The Campaign, well after you see and handle the product then judge it. It was fun to see a campaign that got people talking. Like it or not you're all talking about which accomplishes there goals.

Getting band-aids before I order them!

I think they should fire one or two of the pro's to bring the hook prices down a notch :). Sorry I couldn't resist. Hooks look sharp!
