Where to go for bank/shore fishing on Delta?

Post by rteamespt »

Hey guys and gals,
I recently moved to the Bay area (east bay) and also have made it out on a backseat to the Delta. I love fishing the Delta as everyone else does. Problem is that I don't have a boat and I have alot of spare time on my hands.
My questions are, if any of you are willing, could you supply me with 1 or 2 places that I might be able to drive n walk to in order to get some good fishing in?? I can gladly google map it, and just a general area works too.
I'm pretty sure there isn't fishing allowed from any Marinas or docks, unless you know of some. (I was shooed away from Lazy M once they noticed me fishing after 3 hrs)

I've just got the itch so bad I gotta throw something in the water!!
I appreciate any advice or spots.

I'm always up for a backseat during the week also. split gas anytime.

THANKS!

Holland/Rock Sl. towards the end of Delta Rd. and before/after you cross the bridge - There are many pull-outs and mostly protected from the tidial currents - you just may have to deal with the wind out of the west.

The new Big Break park - off of Big Break Road. A little walk - and some vheicel break-in's have been reported recently.

Any pull out around Sherman Island Rd that looks good to you. (you have to go over the Antioch bridge)

The park/launch of Sherman Is. itself .... I can't remember if it is a State or County park. - But you can Google it. There is also a marina there -- and you can ask the harbor mastor about permission for fishing inside it.

The base of Jersey Island Bridge ... Or even get a tresspass slip from Oakley's Iorn House Sanitay District in Oakley -- and you can fish 70% of that islands levee's. The pass is free -- but the parking pass will cost you $30 for a year.

Walk down the levee of Discovery Bay from the Marina all the way to the point - and towards the bridge. (fun to take the family with bikes and the dog- just don't let the dog eat a Kastmaster 4 miles away from your truck. ) ~~ There is parking above the marina where the old Jack's resturant was - next to the DBYC.

At the end of Orwood Rd - at the Cruiser Haven marina - ask them politely if you can get a tresspass slip to fish the levee to the south. You can also as the marina operators at Holland to ask for a tresspass slip to fish the levee to the north. ~~ Both are on the old river.
Bring a trash bag with you always and offer - bring out any trash you can on the way back out. They will keep letting you fish their access points .... And some will even let you hunt them with your repeated courtosy of thanks.

Look also into getting yourself a cheap (used is even cheaper) float tube/flippers and possibly a pair of waders to keep fishing as the water will be cooling down here soon -- and Always wear a PFD !! no matter where/how/for what you are fishing.

Hope this helps you for a starting point.

Cheers,
Dan
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Great advice Dan. Wiskey Sl is also a good bank to fish. Another good way to fuel your fishing addiction is to join a bass club. Our bass club is in Sac so its probably not a good choice but there are plenty of Delta specific clubs. You can find links to them on this sight. There's also a lot of Delta Rats on this sight probably willing to find someone to split the gas.

My first delta bass was from the bank. An 8+. When i used to live in Stockton I would often run out to Whites Slough area, off of eight mile road, after work and on the weekends. Great during the week, not so much on the weekend due to boat traffic.

+10!

I fish out a tube on the river as often as I can (if I can't get a backseat). You're always more than welcome to join up. Most of the time I'm alone but I'm planning on heading out with a couple buddies this weekend. I might even have an extra tube if you're interested in trying it out. You'll need waders and fins though. Feel free to PM me if you're interested.
