Hi all, first post. My wife and I are moving back to CA from NC and I had not started bass fishing when last in CA. In NC we lived two miles from Kerr/Buggs Island Reservoir and I am used to a big bass being 7-8 pounds and a big lure 6-7 inches. Oroville Lake will be the big lake we will be near now and Collins the closer small body of water. Tell me what I need to be ready for CA bass!
Thank you,
Led Blimp

If you're at Collins, you've got the opportunity for some nice spots and largemouth, and Oroville is Spotted bass central...find yourself some dart head jigs, shakeyheads, and 4" hand poured worms for them spotted bass and try your hand at the swimbaits for the big ones!
Welcome back (as long as you don't catch all MY fish!)

Re: Going to CA on a big jet plane
Welcome back....They say once ya leave Calif, it's almost impossible to come back ( high cost of everything I guess).Sounds like you'll quelch that urban legend. If you're near Oroville, then you're only 2hrs. away from Clearlake, considered a world class bass fishery! Unfortunatley, we're having a nasty algea bloom on the lake right now, and it's taking some of the fun outta fishin. Going out tomorrow anyway, cuz the fish don't seem to mind the green water or crappy smell.
Oh ya, you can fish with frogs, all topwater baits, jigs, worms, the whole enchilada, as long as you find the water to work the baits! Good luck.

Both Oroville and Collins are tremendous fisheries. But ... you're within a couple hours from Clearlake ... and THAT is a GREAT fishery. Just look up the BASS records!Led Blimp wrote:Hi all, first post. My wife and I are moving back to CA from NC and I had not started bass fishing when last in CA. You'll regret it. But swimbaits and finesse worms. Bigger is better and smaller is better

Re: Going to CA on a big jet plane
Thanks for the replys! The fact that everyone is leaving is one of the only reasons we can afford to come home. So, it sounds like small stuff for numbers and huge stuff for the big Cali bass. I can't wait to give it a try. I messed around with swimbaits in Arkansas for awhile while we were there and almost had the pole torn out of my hands two different times but the biggest I ever landed was 6 1/2 pounds. Numbers are not really my thing so I don't mind throwing a huge bait for hours on end as long as I know there is a chance at a double digit bass. Keep those lines tight.
Thanks again,
