Lyons Reservoir (or Beardsley or Pinecrest)

Post by Rooger »

I'm going up to the Sierras over Labor Day weekend and need an escape from family for a few hours. Has anyone fished Lyons (which is pretty close to where I'm staying)? I found some reports that said there are LM, SM and spotted bass in the lake, but it seems like it should be more of a trout fishery.

Has anyone fished this lake (or Beardsley or Pinecrest, which are also close)? I'd prefer to fish for bass, but have plenty of gear which I can use for trout. Help make this weekend a little more fun!

There are some huge browns in the afterbay below Beardsley. I caught them pretty good throwing LC rip baits, fish up to 5 pounds with some 10+ pound follows. Work th ebait very fast and they will slam it. Make sure you crimp down the barbs. T hearea is bardless catch and release only. Most of th efishing up there is trout, but there are a few ponds in Twain Hart that have bass. Also look at the PG&E ditch that runs through Twain Hart. It also has some good browns if you follow it down a ways. It does not look like much but it will surprise you. PM me and I can give you a few other spots, been going up there for 20+ years now.

There are both smallies and largies in Lyons. But not a great fishery. There are small smallies in Pinecrest mainly near the inlet but that place will be a zoo that weekend. If you are bank fishing the ditch or the Stan at Kenedey are best.

Thanks guys! My wife has four sisters and all of them have plenty of drama to go with their baggage so I'm going to appreciate my alone time.

Joe, I've heard the Stan has a good smallie population, but I figured that was at lower elevations. What does Kennedy hold?

Thanks again.
