Question for TD'd would you do this.............
My question is…I recently fished a tournament the entry formed I signed indicated that $10 for every entry would be donated to the Wounded Worrier Project (WWP). There were 60+ boats in this event so the donation should be about $600. I had my doubts about the donation being made so I contacted the WWP and they indicated they had not received and monies from the event. The tournament Director was contacted and he indicated that he held a meeting and a decision was made not the make the donation but instead to buy raffle prizes for the raffle at this event. I feel like this a “Bait and switch Routineâ€

Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
If the premise of the derby is to make a donation to a charity, then by god there better be a donation made. Whether its $1 or $600, the donation needs to be made. And to arbitrarily decide not to make a donation but instead buy raffle prizes is just plain wrong. Did this org charge money for the raffle tickets? or were they the ones given with your weigh-slip? I can see buying raffle prizes and then donating the proceeds from the raffle, but not making any sort of donation is weak.

Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
Well if they claimed that 10.00 per angler was set aside for the charity then they better send at least a 10.00 per angler to the org. If not it is fraudulent, plain and simple, they committed to set aside x amount of the proceeds.
If they held a raffle with the money then they are double billing you for it, they are taking your 10.00 to buy a prize to turn around to sell you raffle tickets for a chance for you to win your 10.00 prize

I think you have a right to request them to open their books and show how much of the event was profit and how much went to charity.

Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
not to mention the fact that 60 guys can write that donation off on their taxes. The IRS can make your life miserable for not having the paperwork. Not to mention the Tournament Director having issues with a DONATION! He cannot direct DONATED fund elsewhere unless its another not for profit that was approved by those donating.ash wrote:Well if they claimed that 10.00 per angler was set aside for the charity then they better send at least a 10.00 per angler to the org. I would call the IRS and the local media on him. Having lost 5 people in the wars not to mention on 9/11 that is BS for him to do that
Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
I remember seeing the ad for this tournament, and while I hardly ever fish tournaments I was thinking that tourney was one I might fish because of the chartable donation aspect.
I'd be furious if I had fished it (I didn't fish it) and then found out that the donation hadn't been made.
It would be nice if the TD came on here and explained what happened.

Wolfeman makes a good point. How many guys were on the fence about this tourney but fished it because it is a great charity event? Sounds like the T.D. used the charity aspect to draw anglers then scammed everyone by not donating a dime to the charity! Total B.S. No excuse can justify what he did. I know a few Vets who would probably like to meet this P.O.S.!

Greg, is that where you got your van (picutred below) from?

haha...In all seriousness, however, we need to get to the bottom of this and find out whether or not it's true, and if it indeed is, this guy needs to pay the consequences, that's for damn sure.

Oh It is true here is the response that was received from the WWP. He witheld the money to buy raffle prizes and charged $1.00 per ticket.
SIXTEENTH ANNUAL POLICE AND FIRE BASS FISHING CHALLENGE April 09 & 10, 2009

I truly appreciate your bringing this event to our attention. We did make contact with Russell Marta. Russell has said that none of the funds raised will be coming to WWP as these funds went to cover expenses and is asking that all inquiries be directed to him concerning the event.

At this point, I am turning both the application and any other information in my possession to our legal team for review. Mr. Marta indicated that he was going to hold the event again next year to benefit WWP – however, we will not be supporting this effort nor acknowledging it as a Proud Supporter event. If you are contacted for next years event and it is being advertised that it will benefit WWP, please do let us know at your earliest convenience.

Thank you again sir for your diligence – we are happy to have you on our side.

Go get him Greg.
This is really sticking in my craw. Did this TD really do this; say he was going to give money to the WWP and then change his mind after the fact. If he did he's pretty freakin' low to take advantage of our returning heros.
I'm cutting a check to the WWP.
I'm also alittle amazed that there isn't more outrage from others. I guess folks only get upset if someone comes on here promoting a product or someone keeps a big bass.
Oh well.
- Wolfeman (Rick Wolfe)
and yeah, despite the sig line, I'm taking this seriously.

I have a few questions regarding this....Is there anyone on here that fished this tournament? Is there anyone here who heard this guy say these things? Can we verify that all this is correct? If so, I'm also curious as to why there isn't more outrage about this...This is quite possibly (if true) one of the most class-less things that has come about in our industry in a LONG time. We need to expose this guy and fry him if this is all true.
So...Facts anyone?

Did you not read this post, It clearly states the WWP will not be recieving any funds from the tounament. If I had fished this tounament I would be speaking up. This is flat out fraud and someone needs to be held accountable.RougeBass wrote:Oh It is true here is the response that was received from the WWP. I'm cutting a check for $100 and sending it today to the WWP. I also challenge every other fisherman here to support the WWP. We need to at least make sure the WWP gets the $600 that they thought they were going to get.
What a cowardice act by a TD to try to make extra money on the backs of our injured soldiers.

That is OUTRIGHT B******T, and that Tourney Director should be arrested and prosecuted for FRAUD !!
Turn his arse into the IRS also, and have them audit his paperwork for EVERY tourney he has ever run.
To publically state that $10.00 will be going to a specific charity, and then NOT TO FOLLOW through is absolutely B******T, and should NOT BE TOLERATED NOR ACCEPTED.

This is the same TD who took issue with Double G fishing with us. His claimed no Pro's could fish this event. But what he failed to realize half the guys there probably fished on the Pro side before. He is a scum bag who runs this event for one reason.... To steal money! This just hits home I did 3 tours in Desert Sheild/Storm. He not only stold from the Vets he is stealing from his own Peers.

Way to step up Wolf. I mailed my check a couple of days ago, right after my post. We need more anglers to step up, even if it only a few bucks. The recession hurts but we wouldn't have our freedoms if it weren't for the soldiers giving their all.
C'mon boys, step up to the plate and put your money where your mouth is.

I would like to once again state that Delta Bass Tactics is in NO WAY associated with the POS who did this.
We took out appx. 25 Warriors and didn't charge people 1 dime! We used our club dues and we had some great sponsors help cover our costs.
I hope to find out who really did do this so I can let them know what I think of them!
If anyone has any questions about our event, please visit our website www.deltabasstactics.com or feel free to give me a call at 925 963 7132
also, thanks again to all of the service men and women who have stood up for our freedoms...all gave some and some gave all!

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this, but the FTC has a hot-line where they are actively pursuing Charity Fraud. Here's an article I found while searching the web.

So I've searched far and wide for this Russel Marta character and can't seem to find out anything about him. I can't even find any information on the event other than what is posted here. Can anyone provide any sort of contact for the tournament director that hosted that tournament? We need to bombard this POS human being with calls/e-mails etc.
As an active duty Marine and OIF Vet, this sh*t makes my blood boil, as I've had countless buddies and peers come home messed up, or not come home at all. Let's expose this PIECE OF CRAP and ensure that he'll never run another tournament again!

Just for the record I am a disabled vet. But I ain't hurt bad enough to club this guy like a baby seal. For someone to stiff guys who got hurt defending you right to be a a$$hole really pisses me off. There are allot of Marines out there just like me that would love to get there hands on this guy.
If I was to make a list of things you don't do, I think stealing from a wounded warrior would be somewere at the top.
And delta bass tactics give me a PM next time you do your event. I will take one of these guys out fishing anytime.

Well if you want responses yes the guy needs be called around the corner at the next event and have his butt kicked.
Pretty low thing to do but some of you seem to have past experiance with this looser.
Why in the hell would you fish any event he was involved in? Boycott the idiot and run him out.

Thanks for the info WW76. I think I need to make phone calls all hours of the night and morning. In fact I will be calling this POS at 3:30 when I wake up for work.
I can't believe this guy has a badge, assuming he is a prison guard.
Maybe one day he can become a resident after being busted for fraud.

Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
What we want to come of all this is for him to step down from running this event. The problem we have is he has been approached and asked to step down and he has indicated that he will setp down if that is what everyone who fishes the event wants. Here is the problem. He is the only one who knows every single person who fishes this event. People comes from all over the state to fish this. There is no way to contact everyone. So we need the word to get out what he has done.
Anyone doubting any of this information please get the WWP and speak with Dana 904.296.7350 X 115. She has all the information and actually contact Russel Marta herself as you can see from a pervious post.
Bottom line is we want him out and we want to make good or at least try to make good on this donation at the next event.

Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
I agree with eye in the sky see the post dated 4/12/09 posted by Gumpa. Folks just don't know what is going on. They just want to get together and fish, but i'm sure they don't want to be ripped off or be part of an organization that would do something like this. Entry fee was $160 @ 60 boats that is $9,600 and he couldn't give that $600 to WWP??????????????????????

Re: Question for TD'd would you do this.............
I have received a couple of PM's so I will post the answer on here. As you can see the WWP was contacted and they have refered this to their legal department, and said in no way would they endorse this event in the future. We have notified our own Department of his actions. Now what becomes of any of this is anyone guess. Please feel free to take whatever legal actions you would like on this matter Eye in the sky or myself will be happy to provide any information. If any of have contacted Mr. Marta please let us know incase this does come to an investigation we can let them know what he is say to people. He has already had a few different versions of his story.
We want the WWP back in our corner and we want to double this donation at next years event. And it wont happen if he is running it!!!!!!
