Post by Garrett Charter »

Anyone heard anything on what the schedule will be next year for the Stren and N.G. or when the schedule will be out. Thanks

It may be out earlier this year than last, but in the past it didn't come out until Novemeber.

Maybe someone who attended the DFG meeting could chime in.

Are you sure Mike?

That means no Series in the fall and all 8 derbies are in the Winter/Spring with two months in a row with two derbies?

If I fished that schedule I really would be a pro fishermen becuase I wouldn't have a job or a wife.

Does anybody know how old you have to be to fish the Stren and National Gaurd as a Co-Angler?

16 years old.
For above, Mike's call on Shasta January Stren is on DFG's site. The rest are not on the site yet . He is probably right as he is in touch with the jamboree. See ya Series. I am not going to Roosevelt

Having fished Roosy it is a very good lake better than many in Southern Cal, NV, or AZ. If they lift the slot limit the fishing will be great.

The lake is full of 2 pound fish that are in the slot.

....and there is no place to stay near the lake, and every fish is the same size, and the Sherriff is a PIA.

Don't need to be subjected to second class citizen status by a power tripping badge. I do have to say the town people are VERY nice. Just too far from the lake. Stren will get all my attention. I hope it is Mead instead of Havasu. Anyway you slice it the Stren schedule is superior.

Have you been to Rosy? My motel was 15 minutes from the lake and there were two others down the street from mine? They checked the boats before the Derbie and things went smooth.

I only like the Stern better because there are not two events in one month. That should be a NO NO for these week long derbies.

I'll wait till I see the schedule in writing...

Thanks guys for the quick responses. Guess I'm going to have to wait another 3 years for it.

Good luck to all that fish them.

 Yeah, those places were nice. Cody had a nice place too with scorpions in his bed.

We are discussing rumor at this point as I heard it is Roosevelt /Oroville in the fall. I am not going to Roosevelt ever again and I bet the 20 hour drive for the Nor. Cal guys drops a lot of them as well. Just make your check payable to Clifford Pirch as this is his gift. They will be lucky to break 100 boats.

I know this is an older thread but I just came across it while searching for the FLW/Stren schedule and figured I would chime in on Roosevelt...

The guys who came to Roosevelt the year for the first time did not get a good idea on how awesome that lake can be... Every fish is not the same size in that lake, not even close. There are a good number of 10+ fish and tons of 5-7 pounders they were just hard to come by during this tournament. In july there was a 3 fish tournament that had several bags over 20 pounds with 26+ to win and that was with a 3 fish limit, the winner had a 12 an 8 and a 6+.... I would not be surprised to see some 30+ sacks in April if conditions are better next time around...

I am not sure why anyone would assume Pirch is automatically going to win, he did do well but Hawk won the Stren there...

As far as the hotel situation goes there are plenty within 15 minutes of the launch ramp...

The sheriffs were easy going when they did our "pre-tournament" inspection and it took less than 5 minutes.

I do understand the drive is long for some guys but remember it is called the "Western Series" not the "California Series"...

Great post and statement from a cherrypicker who has only fished one FLW tournament. Save your cheerleading for your local buddies as FLW will need them to fill my spot next year in the Guards. My spot that I have occupied for EVERY Guard tournament that has been held.

Remember that Hawk is a Phoenix resident as well. I will go out on a limb and predict that Clifford, Roy and Brett Hite all make the top ten. That is if they are not ripped off by some thief or too sick to fish from a scorpion bite at one of those fine lakeside resorts.

I would also suggest you save your .02 cents. It's going to cost you a bundle to come out here to California and fish the rest of this Series you profess such an allegiance to. FLW needs committed anglers like you.

Damn dude I am sorry if I struck a nerve with that comment.

BTW I am not a cherry picker although I understand how it may appear that way. I have only been fishing tournaments for a couple years and that Stren deal at Roosevelt was convenient and a good chance to try fishing on a higher level... I just got back from fishing the US Open as well and had a good time up there. (I had never fished Mead before so I wasnt cherry picking.) I never professed any allegiance to the NG Circuit but I will be coming out to fish some of their events in California next year as well, possibly as a co so I can get a feeling for those lakes...

BTW Roy is from Utah. He used to live in AZ though... I will agree with Hawk and Pirch likely making the top ten. I may be up for a wager on Hite...

Look at the top ten from last years Stren, they werent just AZ guys...

I think if they would lift the slot there for the tourneys they would have alot more boats. I myself would go again if they did. I do understand why they have the slot limit though and I respect that. We do release all our fish though. It is an amazing lake I will say.

I am all for lifting the slot limit as well but if the bite is good catching 5 overs would not be hard. Most of the local guys were figuring 16-18 per day to make the top 10 but the bite was really bad last April and that nice cold front the night before the tournament did not help... I hope most of the guys will give Roosevelt another shot because it is a really good lake, with lots of quality fish.

Don't mind some of the feedback. Some people have nothing but negative things to say. I would go back to Rosy in a heart beat and I got it handed to me this year. It sure beats going to Mead or Pleasant.

Based on what I saw (motels and help from volunteers) it was a great tournament venue and I've fished all over the country. I sure have stayed at some worse places and visited places where I fealt unsafe and Rosy wasn't one of them.

With that said, it would be a better situation if they lifted the slot.

There are cherry pickers at EVERY event that I've ever fished in my entire career. It's just part of the game.

Would I like to have all 4 events in CA-you bet, but I'm looking forward to going back to Rosy.

I will admit it is not easy to get there from California and there is not a lot to choose from for motels but the lake is full and there are a ton 5+ fish swimming around and plenty of good spots to catch one. By far the best lake in AZ and Pleasant is just a POS garbage lake that the locals hate to fish so at least there is a decent lake for tournaments if you want to fish here. I would doubt that G&F will do anything to lift the slot. They do not report to the politicians and never bend to political pressure from local chambers so very unlikely to get an exception. I was surprised they even cooperated on fish transport for the tournament. Anyway it is a great lake to fish and should be a lot of fun. If we have a typical year that should be prime time for big fish. My 5 year old grandson isn't even afraid of scorpions and they are in million dollar homes here so just part of the desert. Try the Butcher's Hook bar for some local color.

word is no slot limit. That place is as good as El Salto when things are right. Good choice IMHO by FLW. Besides just grab those scorpions like Bear Grills and eat em for a snack. Good supply of vittamins. Rick G.

Even if they remove the Slot limit this lake does not handle fishing pressure very well. Many guys will struggle, but if the competitors in this event don't figure out that with Desert Lakes you cannot stick "ANY" fish in practice within 4-5 days of the tournament they are going to be still scratching their heads during the drive home.

I spoke to a lot of guys who were sticking fish in practice, having some pretty good weights and notice the bite was progressively tough each day out. By the time the tournament started it was tough & with the slot limit brutal.

With the FLW Series along with a dedicated off-limits, removed slot limit and competitors NOT STICKING ANY FISH IN PRACTICE it should be a good event. Having the STREN competitors give first crack at this tournament was probably a mistake as these subtle tactics for effective pre-fishing can have adverse effect on the conditions come tournament day in a large field tournament.

Being a CA native I can tell you this lake is not as great as what the Nor Cal guys are used to. If you're fishing for fun and not to be competitive, then fishing Roosevelt during a big FLW Series event is not for you. If you're looking for the competition, the chance at big money and a launching pad to fishing at the Tour level then this is a great place to test your skills. Winning a tournament on this lake with a field this size is going to be almost as tough as fishing the U.S. Open minus the heat factor.

Either way it's going to be a good tournament & I'm looking forward to fishing this next year.
