Striper Water???

Post by birdi23nls »

I am new to fishing the delta and even newer to fishing for stripers. I have ran into a few big groups of small stripers but no schools of bigger ones yet.

In general what type of water am I looking for when fishing for stripers on the delta.

Current? off of weed lines? Is there a general area that I should be fishing right now? I've noticed that they seem to be in places where the river ""Y's". I guess it is just a natural place for bait fish to gather...i don't know.

How do you guys find the schools? Just look for fish boiling? Sealions? Are there places where the stripers always are going to be? Birds?

Any help would be most appriciated, as I am pretty clueless...i'm headed out tomorrow and hope to find a school or two throughout the day.

thanks

Take a look for flats close to deeper water, there are many of these in the Middle/Old River areas. Widow Lake where the water rushes in usually holds fish when the tide is running in or out.

Run some of the tule islands going down Sandmound Slough, then of course the more common places, Sherman Lake, BB, Franks, etc.

Parallel the tule islands with your favorite topwater, switch to a swimbait, Rat-L-Trap, etc after about 11AM if the sun is shining.

Hope this helps a bit.

heres the best advice. when u mentioned sea lions. if you see a seal just leave and go to another spot. those seals are looking to eat those stripers and those stripers are running
