My best kept secret

Post by offduty »

Well you guys have been real good to me so I thought I would share my favorite swim bait. These lures are custom made 1 at a time and have microfiber fins. This guy is amazing in paint jobs, lure making and the lures are very durable

Just google johnscrankbait and check out his site, specifically the link additional photos and videos.

John can make anything you want including gators, lizards and iguanas and I have numerous big bass on his lures. I have no affiliation with him other than being a customer that has purchased about $1,500.00 in swim baits.

Enjoy Rich

Does anyone here just throw/pitch/jig/work the "simple" baits like these anymore ? :?

Wiggle Warts, Big Hammers, Spooks, Big Hammers, Pencil Poppers, Big Hammers, Slammers, Under-Spins with Tails, Big Hammers, LPunker, Big Hammers, LC Rip Baits or crankin' baits, Big Hammers, Shell Cracker ... Along wiith some Wadda Jigs and Assault Stand-up Jigs in here any more ?

Now granted ~ I am not targeting the LM's anymore. I have no pesonal reason to currently. ~~ It is just nothing else than Fast and Furious out there right now for just the fishing action itself alone !! .... and the sea-lions have not even been moving up into the system as of yet into the Carquinez Straights !!

I remember that fall as a a kid ..... W had a "bumper" year of walnuts as a kid. May of been '78- '79 . I do remember having to pick 2 gunny sack's a day for .50 cents a sack on our farm. Sucked .... But I saved and was able to spend alot of money on things that year. -- THIS IS A BUMPER YEAR FOR THE STRIPERS.

It is the same same out there right now for myself, the boys and even others-- FORK THOSE SILLY LM' s !!!!!!

The guy you're talking about is JR Hopkins, and his baits are truly works of art.
He's the one who helped me get started making jointed swimbaits.

I absolutely have no affiliation with John Hopkins. John lives in Washington and I live in Ventura County Ca. Since I have been on this site I have been really fortunate to receive help with a lot of questions that I have had, some have really gone out of they're way to help me out and I really appreciate that.

I am not a great fishermen but really enjoy my time on the water and love to catch fish. Casitas is a tough nut to crack but I feel fortunate to be within 5 miles of the lake.

I do not have a lot of great info to share with you guys and I am sure that a lot of you could teach me quite a bit. It was out of appreciation for the help I have been given on the site that I brought up Johns lures so you may check them out if you so desired.

I know a lot of anglers want to keep what is working a secret because they want to do better than others, usually because there is money on the line, or they just want to ensure they have something that is not seen as much by the fish.

Honestly I would rather I was the only one with Johns lures so it would up my odds. and I have done quite well with them. I don't believe he needs to drum up any more business as I am sure he is back logged and it usually takes about a month to get his lures. I was only trying to do a solid for those who have helped me out on the site.

If I have somehow insulted you I apologize as that was never my intention. Personally I appreciate hearing about the new and different lures and techniques.

Peace Rich

Well Dan; do you mean like when we fished back in the 60"s and all we would carry down the bank was creme black or creme purple and a couple hula poppers, then later on rapala and a Spinnerbait, and then a Jig. Oh yeah you probably wer'nt born yet ????

Thanks Rich........I enjoyed and appreciated you sharing your "secret " lure. Seems like if you are not well know, in the loop, or part of the clique on this web sight guys tend be less than courteous at times.

And to all the guys on this web sight that enjoy sharing and teaching new methods, equipment, ideas, and time on the water....I say a very gracious thank you !!!!

Have you priced the Triple Trout 4 piece lately?
For the amount of work that goes into each of his hand made, hand painted lures, $90 is a steal.
The are both innovative and beautiful, and, from what I've heard, they flat out work.

I believe, think it's still America is it not. If you used a good bait today I believe its ok to say so, maybe not go on and on and on about it; but to get on here and share that info, "hey Billy Bob's crawdad worked great for me today on the bass at Dwynell Lake ...

But to plug, plug, plug, yeah I agree it is not correct, I did it and got busted.

Thanks

These baits are worth the money. If you dont want to pay then you dont play. Just make your own. This thread is a prime example of why I dont post very often.

Dan I actually catch all of my fish in Pedro and McClure on four baits:

1. 6" Creme purple curl tail worm texas rigged on a 1/16" oz lead bullet weight.

2. 4" salt and pepper ring worm with a chartreuse tail texas rigged on a 1/16" lead bullet weight.

3. 3/8" black Brawley Bug with and Uncle josh pork trailer

4. Giant chartreuse Balsa B

All of these are thrown on 5'5" pistol grip fiberglass fenwick rods.

Ps

When this does not work I throw a Swimbait....

Jigs, I do still use a 6' pistol grip Loomis IMX light with 10lb floro and 3",4" and 6" green weines at pedro and had big fish at the Ranger T. a few years back[the one Jimmy Houston was at] on something other than a swimbait Fished that year with Dave of Daves Bass Shack before he closed down. So to each his own. :D

I know for sure that these types of baits are worth the money.. Having said that, I can't wait to get back to L.A. from my latest tour so I can go pickup my "Q-T" (Spelling)
