They are a great place to start fishing tournaments. There will be a few guys that compete in the larger flw type tournaments that fish the federation as well, but that just makes the events better in my opinion, it is fun competing against those guys(or even better if your a non boater and get to be paired up with one). Most of the participants in the federation tournaments are weekend fisherman that just like to fish.
They are a lot of fun and can be great way to meet a bunch of other people since it is a draw tournament you get the opportunity to fish with lots of different people.
You should definitely at least try a fed event once either as a nonboater or a boater.
Another bonus if your just getting into tournament fishing is they are relatively inexpensive to fish vs. a lot of the tournaments out there.
I know a lot of people like the future pro, i just haven't fished any events so I can't comment on a comparison.

Fed events are 'boater on boater', non-shared weight tournaments. Great tournament series regardless of your level. In Southern California there is Regions 6 & 7... I fished Region 7 before moving up here, and Ray Layerly was the tournament director. Ray does a GREAT JOB - can't go wrong there!

I haven't seen this year's entry form, but last year the basic entry was $70, there were two $20 options and a $10 big fish option.
You must be 16 year or older, a member of TBF (through either a regular club or a ghost club) and FLW... the rules and information is all available on the web site, so go pull it up and educate yourself and hopefully we'll see you at the State Championship soon!

Cool... glad you're interested, and keep it in mind when you become eligible as it really is a great avenue to begin your tournament bass fishing.

Derek,
I don't know where you live or how old you are. We have a few junior clubs in California. A couple in Norcal in the Delta area and one in Socal in the Inland Empire area.
Does this help you?

Re: FLW Federation Tourneys
Jeff,
The schedule will be posted very soon. We are in the process of pulling it together.
The first tournament of the 2010 season will be Nov 15th in Region 7 at Castaic.
The rules as they are posted are not finalized. We will be making an update finalizing them after the State Championships in a couple of weeks.

Re: FLW Federation Tourneys
Derek, contact Archie Steele of the Federation if you are interested in the Junior club based out of the Delta. I know that is a bit far for you, but unfortunately that is the closest Junior club.
