Delta Fall Pattern

Post by Austen »

Being this is my first year on the delta, im still learning how these fish work. as the water temps cool what do the bass do that differs from winter, spring or summer. Will the fish go deeper? heavier into cover? Stay in current? no current? any info helps. Thanks

I like the delta year round, but fall is one of my favorite times because of the sheer numbers of fish. Spring is great for size, summer for topwater, but fall is all about quantity.

They're bulking up for the winter and go on the chew pretty good. I still fish current and like to do a lot of flipping and cranking. Crawdad patterns are predominant for colors. Use red. And if that doesn't work, try red.

Topwater is also an option now before the water gets too cool. I like baits like spooks. As the water cools down into winter you'll have to fish less moving current. More flooded islands and marinas or backs of dead end sloughs.

And the bonus this time of year is hooking into a fatty striper or salmon. If you get lucky on a salmon, it must be released. Have fun.

Long, I really like this:

Spring is great for size!
Summer for topwater!
Fall is all about quantity!

In Fall, I would never use Red, it just does not work – the best color for Fall is Crimson, Scarlet, Ruby, Burgundy and Cherry, but not Red.

Need to come up for a saying for Winter beside cold!

Like Long said .....

When you find the Sripers "working" the bait that they are after- on a shore line/ water pocket/ weed bed ... You can bet your most favorite Christmas presant as a kid that there will be LM's - and good sized ones - competing with the Stripers for that same school of bait !
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I would also have a jerkbait tied on for days when those fish just want a bait sitting in thier face.

Thanks everyone for putting me in the right direction of what to gear up with. Now, how are the bass going to react to the weather. just looking for what they're going to do that differs from anyother season. the rest i want to try and figure out on my own.
