When fishing most tournaments is it within the rules to tie up to a dock and fish? What about anchoring? thanks
Re: Yes
Although tieing to a private dock is trespassing, which could be a ticketable offence and if ticketed could lead to a DQ. The odds are pretty slim though.
It is common to anchor or tie up when fihing bed fish. In most circuits if your anchored and your TM is up you own 25 yards or so around your boat.

In general, the rule is you have to stay in your boat. And you can violate pre-existing rules like trespassing. Anchoring should be fine and often, very productive.

Re: Yes
Actually, when you look into the trespassing statute, you have to be asked to leave (untie) and refuse before it's "trespassing". Also, the "trespass" ends when you step off the property (or untie). As long as you are not in "trespass" when the law arrives, it is NOT ticketable and you can not be held in trespass (awaiting the arrival of law enforcement) by the property owner if it your desire to leave...Dewayne wrote:Although tieing to a private dock is trespassing, which could be a ticketable offence and if ticketed could lead to a DQ.

Re: Yes
I have actually been asked to come over and tie up to the dock, because I was going to charged with with tresspass. ( Because, I was going for a car ride anyway with the SO, so I better just come over and tie up.)
Ridiculous. I informed the HB Master that if I did tie up that would technically become a tresspass, and to please go right on ahead and call the SO.
The Sheriff never did show up, but I did leave because I was worried the dockhand guy might jump in and swim for my boat. (Which probably would have ended badly for all parties involved.)
It was that bad.

(Some clubs have rules against anchoring, anchoring might be worth a looksee. Especially if you end up winning at anchor.)
There is another issue, Many tournaments forbid fishing around the host ramp or gas dock, but there really isn't a law against it. I figure it started out as a courtesy to the host marina. Don't interfere with my biz type thing. Not that its against the law, just something to keep in mind when fishing in contests.
