Free PINK SnagProof Mouse !!!

Post by Wild Bill »

Guys, October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month", and to mark the occaision, I am giving away for FREE [shipping included] one SnagProof PINK Moss Mouse to the FIST member that can post the correct wedding anniversary for my wife Mary and myself.
One guess ONLY per member.
I will announce the FIRST posted winner ASAP.
Good luck to all...and 'think pink" !!

My wife is a Breast Cancer SURVIVOR of 7 years now. The cancer had spread into her lymph nopdes, and it took over 12 hours of surgery to remove it and rebuild her in ONE day, followed by six months of severe chemotherapy.
Her original diagnosis was NOT good, but with her strength, our faith in the Lord, and excellent doctors treating her, Mary is now cancer-free.

I cannot begin to tell you the physical and emotional HELL the two of us went through during those very dark days for us, but today, my wife is HEALTHY.
We realize EARLY detection was crucial to her beating the odds.

I have now dedicated much of my life and efforts to raising money for finding THE CURE to cancer.

We are currently attempting to raise money for the "Making strides For Breast Cancer" through the American Cancer Society's secure website, and I ask you to all visit the website and donate ANYTHING you can afford [$5 or more please].
Yes, I do realize times are tough for many, but if we can raise money, hopefully someday this dreaded horrible disfiguring [and sometimes fatal] disease will be a thing of the past.
It knows no age boundaries, as women [and even men] can get this at any point of thier lives

PLEASE, I beseech of you...donate.
It is a secure website, and goes to a cause we all know and recognize !!

Cionsider how MANY WE ALL KNOW that have had cancer of some type or another...and give with your heart.

Here's the link to the fund-raiser...

http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/Makin ... 3&fl=en_US

Thanks in advance for the support !!!

Together, hopefully we can fund the research to find the cure !!!
Together, we CAN make a difference !!

Thank you for supporting this !!

I'd like to thank the fine people of Snag Proof for helping to support this , as well.

Come on California, make my head spin with your generousity...if even only $5 each. It will really ADD UP if many of us get involved.

This Sunday [10/18] my wife, I and about 60 of our freinds and family will be doinga Breast Cancer Walk here on Long Island NY.

My sincerst thanks {from the east-coast NCBF nutcase},

Some of you may say "Who the hell is this guy??", but trust me, my heart is in the right place and this IS REAL, not a scam.

Guys from the site that have met me, like Cooch, Gator, Mike Rexford, Jim Conlow, DDawg. Nor-Cal Tom, CL, Dick Brimmer, and many others will vouch that I am a stand up guy with GREAT intentions, as well as a heart of GOLD, as will Connie and Killer Kilpatrick of Lake Fork Tackle Repair, amongst others.

Connie and Harry from Snag Proof will also vouch for me, and cancer had hit their family, too, so they support this fully.
I designed the color 'wild bull frog' for them several years ago when my wife was rehabbing from her surgery, and all I ever asked them for was them to donate to the American Cancer Society for my efforts.

Please don't hold my NY address against me, as Cancer knows NO BOUNDARIES.

Again, thanks for ANY support that you give this !!!

Hey Wild Bill, our family went through it as well with my daughter who was 12 at the time now she is a Luekemia Cancer Survivor now at 16 and very healthy thank God for that. and I know how Cancer drags down the whole family as it tries to attack them all in its own way. We still worry daily about what if, but thanks to people donating money to Research we all have hope. we now donate monthly to The American Cancer Society and also ask anyone who can to please do the same even a small amount helps. :) My family and I will pray for your wife and hope that she remains Cancer free.

Thanks and God Bless

Jasmine Beat It, too !!

Post by Wild Bill »

CIB,

Thanks for the nice words, and yup, it's NICE to hear success stories.

Here's one that will bring many a smile to members here:

In the winter of 2001, I started a nationwide appeal for signed hats[signed by ANYONE, even kid anglers] for a young teenaged girl angler named Jasmine that had been diagnosed with a tangerine-sized tumor inside of her brain, right atop the spinal column
Again, her prognosis was NOT GOOD....
The docs operated and removed the tumor, then radiated and chemo'ed the living tar out of the girl.

Through the computers and phone, I asked anglers nationwide to send signed fishing hats , sending their encoiuragement that way, as Jasmine had lost all of her hair, and had gone from about 100 pounds down to 55 pounds.

Many of the NCBF'ers [what western Bass used to be years ago], not only sent thier support, but when I came for my annual visit that May 11th, 55 members {and their family} got together and held the Nutcase Classic 13 and then held a BBQ to follow that tourney on the Delta, outright blowing my mind away !!The great showing to support her [it was channeled through me], and I was sent home to NY with a HUGE box of hats and goodies for her, to cheer her up.
I left that day tearing up as I headed home by what had been done....

When I told Jasmine and her family, and shipped the box, happy tears there too flowed, and on my side of the phone too.

Over the course of my appeal called "a mission if compassion" which was well underway when that anthrax scare in the Postal System awas going on nationwide, I had hundreds of packages arrive for Jasmine, which were then re-shipped to her home in another state. Not only did she get hats signed by some of the most famous of all top 100 pros and TV show anglers, but also some that were just 'joe averages' like me, totalling over 200 hats from 38 states and 6 countries, as well as countless other things too, like autographed books by guys like Don Iovino, tackle form many companies, crayon drawings of fishing scenes done by kids, heartwarming notes, etc...
I sent them 6 boxes that were about three foot cubed over time as I filled them up, FILLED by stuff sent for her. She now has a 'museum' of fishing gear from some of the most famous of all anglers and others , too

Amazingly, despite her prognosis, she defied all odds and BEAT IT TOO.

Jasmine is now a pretty college coed, once again living a healthy life.

You all cannot imagine how many happy tears flowed as I wrote this......

My sincere and heartfealt thanks to so many that stepped up back then for Jasmine, and have asked about her since.

From May11th [Jasmine's Birthday, by the way], 2002 I recieved a trophy plaque that I cherish and hang on my office wall ....

"The Odd Nut" plaque...from Nutcase Classic 13, awarded because an angler from NY [me] was Bass fishing the Delta that day, and I guess that is a little odd...{LMAO}

How about 10/06?

Post by Burke »

Do you want just month and day or year too? If it's month and date, how about 10/06. That's our anniversary date.

Cancer is tough. My mother-in-law just died from cancer. She donated her body to science. It was tough watching cancer rack her body and there was nothing that we could do except to comfort her as much as possible.

The only charities that we donate to are Cancer Society and Alzheimer's (my dad died from complications of that disease).

Great News , I beat cancer twice at 55 and going strong. Chemo is pure hell and I had it for 3 years back in the late 70's when higher doses and more was thought to be better. New therapy and drugs are always being tested but we the people are like Lab Rats just praying were on the right trial. Only 1 out 10 new drugs have a positive outcome and are received by the medical community with open arms. I love hearing about people cured of cancer. This mutant disease can scare the life and hope from any family. Again GREAT NEWS about your loved one!

Hey Wild Bill! Prayers from the Sanders family that your wife remains cancer-free. We also pray that a cure is found. That's scary stuff. Ivan's sis-in-law passed away last year from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 48.

About your anniversary date. Hmm. Brides love June weddings so I'm guessing 6/16?

5 mile walk in the wind and rain !!

Post by Wild Bill »

Today, my wife , myself, and many of our friends and family all walked together at the "Making Strides for Breast Cancer" at NY's Jones Beach's boardwalk where a five mile course is layed out and decorated with pink ribbons along the way [here on the 'east coast'] in today's pouring rain, approx 45 degreee air temps, and 20-30 mile an hour wind , making for a VERY uncomfortable and dreary walk for many.

It is always a very emotional day for myself, as I think how lucky that my wife is alive and still with me, and I see all the families walking to honor and remember their Moms, Grandmoms, or daughters who were NOT so lucky.

I can only hope and pray that SOMEDAY, through research, the CURE to Cancer will be found.

That research costs LOTS of money, so PLEASE consider donating to the American Cancer Society through the link provided in post #1 of this thread, or through your local chapter of it.

You have the memory of an elephant! Fishin' is O.K. down here. Guys don't get a lot of fishing styles on the west coast that are common. Swimbaits, dropshotting, etc. They think all there is is spinnerbaits, poppers and worms and jigs and thats it end of story. The looks I got helping Jeremy and Grant man the Black Dog booth back at the classic were priceless even better when I go fishin with some one for the first time and they see my swimbait rod with a punker or shell cracker tied on. They politely inform me we aren't going after saltwater species and I politely inform them that I know. I'll be fishing the 2009 BASS Central Open No.3 on the Atchafayala basin the first weekend in November as an Am. Hope it goes well I could use that bassboat they are giving away for first place on the AM side

Tom,

What you wrote above is funny, and YUP, I get it here in NY , too...that is, until I stick a real hawg on one in front of them.

I have had people come up to me while I was fishing some local park ponds witha BIG lure, and had them yelling to me "Buddy, you got a good one", until I real it in , and they see it is MY LURE, not a fish. then their eyelids go up, and ask 'what the heck you fishing for?"
I tell them "A Good one,"

The tackle shops, enthusiasm, and OPEN MINDNESS for Bass fishing and it's gear in California BLOWS much of our country's other areas tackle shops away, IMHO.

I would be like a pig in "...." if there were tackle shops like the couple I have visited in CA , if they were to be here in NY.

When things REALLY impress or AWE me, yup, I do, indeed !!!

What all of you NCBF'ers did back then for Jasmine flat out blew me away !!
The hospitality, warmth, and freindship that you all showed me was unreal.
I can tell you ALOT of details about that day...including the color of Yamamoto shirt that Cooch wore that day. {LOL, but seriously, I can}

Or about the great time [and laughs] I had fishing with Tom 'fishfafun' [my boater that day]...

Or that was co-hosted by "SSC" [Strawberry Short Cake] and "Cooch", with Cooch doing a fine job emceeing that day....

I can even tell you some of the foods you all were serving, trust me.

Like I say...it all flat out blew me away....and it is a day {and actions} I will remember as long as I live.

California trip 5/10

Post by Wild Bill »

Sadly, this was the first year in ten years that I did not make my annual mid-May California fishing vacation, when we see our freinds in Morgan Hill.

On May 31st, I gave my 28 year old daughter away in a fancy wedding, something she has dreamed of for a long time, so we were a bit occupied then with pre-wedding planning.

This past weekend, our freinds from Morgan Hill came to visit us instead, doing up NYC with us one night , and then they walked with our group to support my wife in the "Making Strides For Breast Cancer " annual walk here at Jones Beach's boardwalk.

I hope to be back out to Morgan Hill next mid-May for about 9 days, and I am looking forward to it hugely.

Hoping things have been really well with you and all of your family.
