RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
A guy told me that the bay area lake's,Anderson,Coyote and Calero, are going through some change's. He said Coyote is going to be closed all together.
He also told me that Anderson and Calero will only be open certain day's. I guess from what I got was when Anderson is closed Calero will be open and when Calero is closed Anderson will be open.
He said it was all becouse the County can only fund a few people for the inspection's so the idea was close Coyote and have them alternate between Anderson and Calero.
Tell me this guy is wrong.

No...he is right. They did the same thing last year. Look at the Santa Clara County Parks website. I think the lakes closed this last weekend. Check the site before you go out.
Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
Meanwhile the park rangers at Coyote drive around in brand new trucks. And they need how many rangers to patrol on a given day? 3, 4, 5??? Whatever.
I just got back from Table Rock lake in MO. Launch is free. There is no mussel inspection. A state-run organization dumps rocks and other structure in the lake and provides the GPS coordinates on their website. 87 octane is $2.35.
I love the fishing in this state but I hate the way the lakes are run.

I hear you about the rangers, I've been hassled every time I've been there. This sucks about the lakesswimbait wrote:Meanwhile the park rangers at Coyote drive around in brand new trucks. And they need how many rangers to patrol on a given day? 3, 4, 5??? Whatever.
Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
As far as I know its not the parks department who made the call. Its the water company who supplies the inspectors. There the one who doesnt want to pay for the "Off season" inspectors. The county has no say in the matter. If your gonna be upset at anyone it should be the water district....

Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
From what I understand this will only affect boat traffic. All will still be open to foot traffic. But you are correct on the way it will go down.
Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
Calero : closed to boating Mon and Tu
Anderson : closed to boating Wed and Thurs
Coyote : closed to boating till like april i think
pretty soon there won't be any options left....
you know what else bugs the shhh out of me...how the lakes open at 8 a.m. in the south bay....if i can wake up at 5 a.m. to go to work...i don't see why some ranger can't. what a joke that is...you get on the water at 8:15 and miss the best part of the day..and then the boat has to be off an hour before sunset...i dont know how many times i've been on a great bite and had to leave b/c they want to close the gates.
figure it out water district....

Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
I went camping there this past summer and had nothing but trouble with the rangers. We followed all the rules and they still hassled us, ended up writing us $180 in tickets, including one for parking in a site next to ours while we were loading the truck to leave ( the truck was there for maybe 20 minutes... $90 dollar ticket). And the ranger mumbled "Well thats 3 tickets for this campsite now" as he was walking away, they just had it out for us. I'll never camp there again.JUST wrote:I hear you about the rangers, I've been hassled every time I've been there. The way Bay Area lakes are run is a joke, I always ask the inspectors if they've ever found a mussel and none of them will ever give me a straight answer. The county is just having their way with us and our money.
Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
The real concern is not fully grown mussels, it's the microscopic veligers or larva they are worried about. They can be transported in a drop of water. I seriously doubt anyone is stupid enough to try to launch with fully grown mussels attached to their boat.mrfishin86 wrote:

I have thought about throwing a big clump of salt water mussels in my boat just to screw with them though.....
Re: RUMORS ABOUT BAY AREA LAKES
As mentioned already the issue is with the water district. They are the ones that decide about all use of the lakes in Santa Clara County. They claim that their purpose is to provide good water not recreation.
The 8am rule is do to the residents around the lakes complaining about noise. Has nothing to do with the rangers. I dont like the system either, thats why I drive to other lakes and the Delta outside of the county.

Fishing should be fun.

I don't see how they can let wake board boats on these lakes when they are NEVER "Clean and dry". I've seen bass boats get turned away because a tiny drop of water was in the live well but yet they let the wake board boat in just fine when they know there's water in that boat. I hate stupid people!

Just got back from Lake Oauchita is Arkansas. All lakes there are free launching. No mussel inspection or signs anywhere. Gas 2.35

Not all wakeboard boats have ballast tanks.Chaozu wrote:I don't see how they can let wake board boats on these lakes when they are NEVER "Clean and dry".
