Bass Fishing in Mexico, where and when?
Bass Fishing in Mexico, where and when?
I'll looking for a little feedback from fellow nutcases pn a fishing trip to Mexico. What lake (s) have you been too? When do you think the best time to go?
Thinking of planning a trip and looking for local input.

Re: Bass Fishing in Mexico, where and when?
I,ve been to El Salto & Comendero, both with Ron Speeds outfit out of Texas, Also to Brazil with them. All trips were in Jan. I enjoyed all of my trips & like the people with Ron Speed. I try to do 1 trip per year, always in Jan. and unless they really screw up. They will always be with them. I do like Comendero better than El Salto, ON El Salto you stay on the water at Comendero, you stay in a small village away from the water but the lake is more like Don Pedro and I think you have a better chance of catching bigger fish.
Good luck, Hope you go,I think everybody should do Mexico at least once in a lifetime, to be able to go out and catch 30 to 50 fish in the 4 to 8 lb class in a day with a real chance on each cast of getting aPB is something everbody should do at least once.

I have been to Baccarac, El Salto, Dominguez and Hidalgo. In the 80's and early 90's Baccarac was incredable but pressure and low water really hurt the fishing. It has made a tremendous comeback in the 2 years with lots of big {13plus} fish caught. El Salto is still the king though. The resort is first class and in my opinion the best time to go is at the very end of the season. Mid-April thru the end of June. The water is at its lowest and the big fish are easy to locate. You should get a 10lb plus fish easy. Cost is around $2000.00 for 3 1/2 days of fishing including plane fare. But if you truly want the best adventure on the planet, nothing beats Brazil Peacock Bass. 10-20 fish a day over 10lbs. And is really not that expensive. About $3600.00 for 7 fishing days including plane fare. EVERY bass fisherman needs to try Brazil at least once. Thanks Rick G.

Were going in Jan....come join us!
Seven us us will be going to El Salto from Jan 16th thru 20th. We still have room for a couple more people if you want to go. However, you need to get your money to me before Dec 15th.
This is my 6th trip to the lodge and trust me..it is no less than phenominal. 80 degree weather, fantastic accomodations, 100 fish days, and more 5 pounders that you can count.
Call me if you want to go ASAP!

I remember you Bob!...We all ate dinner and lunch together at the lodge several nights. No..none of the guys you mentioned are going with us. It will be a whole new crew of guys that have never been to El Salto before.
And they don't know it yet, but they will never view bassfishing the same again after this trip. Did you hear that the lodge has added phones and satillite TV in each room along with internet lines?
I can't wait til January!
See you there!

I will be visiting friends in Mazatlam in February, and I was planning to make a one day trip to El Salto during this time.
My question is, should I lug all my gear for one day or do they have adequate equipment on hand?
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff....
At the extreme minimum, I would take a couple of reels, spooled with 17-20 test line. I'm sure they can come up with a rod or two for you to use.
There is a small, and I mean small, tackle store on site, but the choices are very limited.
I would suggest taking several bags of Senkos, a bag or 2 of worms, 3-4 deep diving cranks and a couple of Carolina rig setups.
This is by no means a complete list, and is not intended to be, but you did want to keep it light.
With just this short list, you will have one of the best days of bass fishing in your life.

I hope they sound-proofed the walls before adding those items. The walls are so thin you can literally hear every word of conversation from your neighbor. It's so bad that I would recommend staying in the converted trailers instead (they areopsveh1 wrote: Did you hear that the lodge has added phones and satillite TV in each room along with internet lines?

very nice).
Having said that, I'd sleep on the sidewalk for another trip to El Salto, it's that good. Be prepared to be pampered.

i hear you there..last year we had room #1 and it was next to the massage room and across from the sitting area .. and man was it noisy . i have requested a high number room in january. but after three or four days of getting up at 4:45 and fishing all day we really didn't have that much trouble getting to sleep to anyone who hasn't been to el salto yet .. GET WITH IT soon it will become too commercialized and won't be as good ..
