Weird fish?

Post by bassmonster »

The picture is posted in the photo section. I snagged this thing in 20 feet at San Luis Reservoir. What is it?

I was fishing last week in Arkansas and a spot I caught spit up a fish that looked like that. The guide told me it was a sand pike. I would have the DFG look at that picture. Guide told me that they are nest raiders...

That was a Pacu at Pedro!!!!

yes more likely a log perch. This site show all the spices in the Berryessa-Clear Lake region. Notice the extinct spices due to nothing more that making creeks go completely dry.

Found that portion of a book, says the US Fish and Wildlife service got careless and shipped them along with a shipment of bass and bluegill to Beale AFB when the lakes overflowed they dumped into the Bear river, then into the trinity and eventually through all tributaries of the Delta.

That's similar to the story I heard of how white bass got into Lake Kaweah and Lake Success 20 years ago. DFG claimed that they were illegally planted by a rogue angler, but I heard DFG brought them in by accident with a big planting of catfish, but wouldn't cop to it. DFG poisoned and restocked both lakes.

From your link:

Striped bass, Morone saxatilis, introduced, resident, uncommon
The striped bass is the scourge of the estuary but gets into the bioregion mainly by entering the lower reaches of Putah Creek on occasion.

I actually caught a 3 pound striper off a Rat-L-Trap in lower Putah a couple years ago!
