another battery question?

Post by basslayer »

Im currently running interstate 27 sereis batterys on my minnkota maxxum pro 80. Im thinking of upgrading to a 34 sereis optima (blue top). Any pros or cons on this setup.

Thanks for your input.

I can't comment on the Optima vs Interstate part of the question, but regarding 34's vs 27's....

Con : The 34's will be larger and heavier and probably more expensive.

Pros : They should last longer on a single charge.

I'd go with the biggest battery you can afford and fit in your boat so if 34's fit, I'd get them.

If you can fit the 31's, go with them.

This Whole Post is WRONG

The 34's are really the size of a Group 24 wet cell batt, so the optima 34 will be lighter the the 27's Interstates you have now, But the plus with the 34 optima's is they should last the same amount of time as the Interstates you have now.

If I was you I would Look into the New Optima 27 Blue top Or Just Bite the bullet and get the 31's (if your going to spend 200.00 a batt)

The weight on the New Optima 27's will be with in a lb or so of what you have now, or if you go to the 31's (which is what I got) you will pick up 6lbs a batt.

I went with the 31's because of the fact you can never have to much batt and for $30.00 more for the 31's then the 27's and since I was going to drop over 200.00 a batt whats 30.00 more a batt in the long run

27's will cost 209.00
31's will cost 239.00

Just my 2 cents worth

I got the opti 27's they are good and last forever. Never had the batt go weak over the course of a full day. Probably could go 2 days before they get weak power. The size of the opti 27's is smaller than the conventional batt at the base so you might a well go with the 31's, they should fit in a standard 27 tray. 27's are fine though

Got mine at BPS..Alot of places don't carry the 27's so you should call before you go. Pep boys and Autozone carry them but their selection is limited. Call around and you should find them
