There is a difference between "needing" and "wanting" something and also between and buying things last minute and planning ahead as best you can. THese things make a financial impact.

I agree that not everyone will be able to do it for $900-$1000, but some will by being conscious of what they are buying, when they are buying it, where they are staying, what they are eating, etc.

Hollywood, no one said anything about 4, 5, 6, 7 guys in a room. 3 people to a room is not terrible and in some cases, 2 people to a room doesnt raise the amount that much. I am also willing to bet that a post on here or on your local boards could also produce a traveling partner who may be wanting to save a few bucks of his own.

Either way, even if it does cost $1000 to $1500 travel and $2000 in entry, that is still $1500-2000 for a weeks worth of work, and doing something most guys would kill to do for work. For some it will mean breaking even if they dont have PTO or are losing money from their regular jobs by taking time off, but even breaking even, you get to fish, something you like to do...and get paid for it!

If any of you guys are looking for a co/angler to help split the cost. I might be your solution. I have a small moterhome we can stay in, and I live in tracy Ca. Thats 30min from either russos or stockton. I would like to do all 4 events. I have been fishing turnys for 4 years out of my own boat but would like to try from the back of the boat for 1st yr in flw. If you are interested give me a call 209-740-3228

I never complained about the price I pay for expenses, just stating reality! Yes you can do it on a budget, hell I can camp in the back of my truck and run a generator to charge batteries if I really wanted to save money and cut costs. You are correct needs and wants.

When gone for weeks at a time, I want to be comfrotable while I am gone. Sleeping on a roll away or on the floor for 7-8 nights, no thanks, sharing a room with 3-4 guys, no thanks.

And for the guys who choose to travel alone and practice alone as they may not want nor like a co-angler in the back of the boat face these exact expenses.

Diffently not complaining or I wouldn't be willing to spend $1500 for expenses for a tournament.

Same here, I personally do not like having a Co in the boat. I tend to concentrate much better and I do not have to worry about someone else and if their comfortable. I would rather spend the extra $20 a day than get it towards gas.
Other than that If I'm not sleeping in the truck, I'll be splitting the bill with another boater. But that bring's me from $1300 to $1150 or so.

Try being a co-angler with this sch and payouts? I could make the top 10 in every tourney and still lose money. BUT since the 1st place payout is probably going to be a 177 ranger or something close to that I will try and fish all 4 if I can. BUT at the same time if I finish 10th the payout is only $750.00 in a full field. Will probably fly to Vegas for the Mead that could save a few $s. I only wish I had the travel problems that some of you have. And trust me sleeping in my car or van will not be a problem for me. Looks like I better win a couple of these things this year. That's the only way I will be moving to the pointy end some day. Dang, I'm tired just thinking about the travel. :?

Water (2) case's $20.00
Crackers (2) cases $15.00
Chips $10.00
Beef Jerky $20.00

Tackle Purchased prior to event FOR event $250.00

Oil for boat (3) $100.00

Oil change in truck $30.00

Gas just to do all of this $20.00

Hit the road...

Fill up truck $111.00 and buy Monster

Drive 500 miles and stop to fill up tank $100.00

Get to exit and fill up boat $174.00
Sleep at launch ramp for FREE........

Fish all day and top off boat $80.00
Check into hotel w/other boater
Eat Dinner $12.00

Wake up get Ice and Monster $6.00
Fish all day and top off tank in boat $100.00 (went looking today)
eat dinner $12.00
stay in hotel

Wake up get Ice and Monster $6.00
Fish all day and top off tank in boat $80.00
go to registration
go to wal-mart and buy forgotten net and a few things $40.00

Wake up get Ice and monster $6.00
fish all day and top off tank in boat $120.00 Minus -$25.00 from co-angler (fish moved alot, so did I).
Eat dinner $20.00 (hungry for real meal)

Wake up and check out $200.00 each for 4 nights.
buy ice and monster $6.00
Fish all day burning more gas (-25.00 from co-angler.)
eat $10.00 and top off truck $80.00
stop 3/4 of the way nap and top off tank $100.00

I come up with $1,693.00 PLUS ENTRY AMOUNT!!!!!

And there will be more little things like Gate fees or permits most of the time.... Do I spend too much? I dont think so...

But I will keep on doing it, because I love it..

Your loosing all your money in your prep...

10 dollars for a case of Water?????

10 dollars worth of chips?? How do you fish for 8 straight days eating 10 dollars worth of chips? I hope they're Sunchips and not Ruffles.

If your at Costco why wouldn't you just buy a case of Monster to go with your 10 dollars worth of chips?

When your at your hotel and you hear that rumbling down the hall its an ice machine STOCK UP......

Is it 111.00 to fill up a Truck these days? Dayum I pay 65 for my Armada and 55 for my girlfriends Toyota FJ both pull my lil 19' Ranger just fine.....

Everything else sound realistic.....

36 gallons at $3.00 =$108.00 (F250 Diesel) and add the $3.00 Monster...=$111.00

Ok, so I would save about $8.00 buying a case of monsters and $10.00 on ice if I take from the hotel.

I would have to sneak to Costco for the Monsters. My wife is a doctor and she freaks when I buy the Energy drinks. Thats why I buy them in the A.M. on the road.

Most hotels I have stayed at for years and get rates that most people can't. That works out to 25-30 a night and 250-300 for the week. I just stayed in AL at the Marriott that was reg price $130 a night. I paid $59.00 and there were 3 of us in the room. That's a little over $20 bucks a person wiith tax. Worked out to be $175 for 8 nights. I'll usualy stay in the truck the first night if my roommates haven't made it.

Food-Most time we make our own and cook in the room or make sandwiches. That's a quick stop to walmart or sam's club before I hit the road. Eating out only 2-3 times on the under $10 menu. I'm a little guy

I have not read anyfarer but I like the way ricky makes a $$ go

In most cases my truck and boat spend a lot of time at the Sac Airport or at a friends house in Sac and I purchase flights back and forth which makes it cheaper than driving. I get special rates from SWA at under $100 round trip. When I drive it takes a little over a tank to the delta and two to CL or Oroville. I am getting around 15 mpg towing in my 30 plus gallon tank.

Plus I don't have to buy boat oil.

If I tell you any more of my little tricks I'll have to charge you for a guide trip

I told you guys months ago this FLW change was not going to fly. Glad to see people looking at the bottom line in these tournament investments. Now people need to focus their energy on the real money stealers...................anybody but FLW. If you think the Guards make no sense look at a WONBass Pro/Am.

I actually don't mind the WON pro/ams. I would rather donate to them than FLW. FLW really could give 2 craps about anyone as long as they keep selling Rangers.

It really should just be called "Ranger Owners tournament trail"... Let those guys keep Irwin rich, I'll keep WON running, they've been around the longest anyways...

Don't mind Justin. He has a thing against FLW and Ranger.

Anyone that says they would support a WON (1 in 5-20 spots) payback over a FLW (1 in 3-50 spots) payback is using that special math.

I could care less who runs the derby. I want to get the MOST return on my investment. I'd fish the Bayliner tour if they were paying back 100%. I wish that NBW would step up and offer some Pro/Ams at 100%.

Plus, If you think that the owner(s) of WON cares about Bass fishing then you are truly out of touch. I have been at meetings where those guys have gone on record about how they feel about WON Bass. Why do you think Hutch left....

In terms of the wife-She knew the job was tough when she took it
