Lower Unit Oil

So I purchased my boat almost a year ago and have been going through and doing some preventative maintenance. I drained the lower unit oil and was wondering if it matters what I replace it with as far as weights in lower unit oil.

I have a two stroke 60 HP Merc if that matters at all.

I also run a Merc.,and use Merc.fluids.If it was Evenrude , it'd be 'rude fluids , best way ta go.

go to your motor brand dealer and obtain some of their syn gear oil. They will steer you in the correct direction. Bill K

Each to their own and I'm not trying to change any-one's mind.

I've been using "Amsoil" sny products for 10+ years in all of my race cars, personal vehicles and outboard engines: Mercury, Evinrude, Yamaha & Suzuki and never had a problem. You will find a 100 to 150 rpm increase when you use Amsoil sny gear-lube in your lower unit instead of regular gear lube that comes with the motor; at least I have.

stick to merc w/ a merc. i'd also go with the plus gear oil
