While I do not endorse or approve of "rookie" circuits, as a seasoned team tournament angler from the motherlode I would hands down say Anglers Choice because of one man - Danny Peluso! Danny keeps it fair and he has a passion for bass fishing and helping beginners like no other. Some guuys are clearly in it for the profit, Danny is in it because he loves bass fishing and wants to grow the sport! This is a no brainer situation, go with Anglers Choice semi pro!!

Agreeden, Fish AC for the above riesens and cherry pick an FPT event in your area if you want. Cherry pickers abound cause you can just show up and pay a $5 membership fee, win the thing and never be seen again. Have fun and good luck.

Robert hit the nail on the head! Go with A/C. Danny is one of the best TD's I've fished with. Good bunch of guys fishing his circuits too. Oh and compare the payouts.

Hello - the best advice is to go and find out for yourself and go and see the events... too many anglers have hidden agendas that have very little to do with fishing and how tournaments are run - both Danny and Vince are fantastic individuals who make great contributions to our sport. I never buy a suit because someone told me it is a good suit - I always try it on for fit... go see an event or better go get into both an AC and a FPT and decide for yourself - I am confident you will clearly see that they are both quality organizations, well run and will offer a fine entry into competitive bass fishing.

I agree with with Desmangles, Both are good guys, Danny and Vince both have passion for the sport. Try both of them and decide for yourself...

Oh no, not again. This topic is going to hit the nerves of the the anglers who have been let down by FPT. I don't have an opinion about AC because I've never fished it. I have fished FPT and can't understand the love fest that some of ya'll have for Vince and FPT. Vince is like a politician on a campaign. It all sounds good but when it comes right down to it, that blow horn doesn't make it more like the big time. They talk about TV exposure, I haven't seen a camera at an event since the 06 classic. They talk about sponsors, maybe for him. They talk about a learning experience, you learn you dont get your moneys worth when you do well.
Bottom line, man up and do the pro teams, you just might do better than you think. Half the guys fishing rookie tournys are fishing pro teams too.

For the life of me i dont understand why anglers continue to fish Circuits that year after year there are problems , can anyone name one year where there hasent been some major problem with the FPT ?
Havent you all had enough of the crap ?
Are you all really that naive that your going to let yourself get taken advantage of time and time again ? I wonder who is the next victim and at what price ? Will it be you next ? I was a victim once and it is not a good feeling at all ! Does it make you all feel good when you know this man trashes on your fellow anglers , i dont understand it all .
Here you have Anglers Choice that pays the best , has a director who runs it by the book and doest bend the rules for anyone and your still trying to decide which is best ?
The choice is clear AC WRL Rookie league . If you choose to fish the FPT im not going to feel bad for you when you get i broken off in your behind !

Verscope,

There are very divided and strong opinions on these two tournament trails. I think one needs to decide what it is YOU want or expect from a tournament trail and base your decisions upon what is the best fit for YOU.

Its kinda like fishing, the doc talk always runs rampant but at the end of the day you know what drives you and what is the best course for you.

Just a note, there has been a lot of bashing on tournament trails in the past couple of weeks. Perhaps cabin fever has gotten the best of some. With that being said keep it respectfull guys, I know some of you have heat with FPT - then why not just state the positives for AC instead of the bash fest? Bashing is just going to lead to moderation and then no one will have a chance to read what you wrote.

Thanks,

Ash

My advice, fish one of each and choose for yourself. You will get a really good feel for how each is ran in just one event. You will get to see payouts, get a feel of attitudes of other anglers, meet both directors, get a feel for the weigh ins, see the time it takes to blast off and get off the water and then be able to drive home from each event and weigh the pros and cons of each. This is really the best way to do it in my opinion. One thing to keep in mind is that you will not be able to get a "feel" for what each does for their respected TOC's, which is where many complaints come I think.
After fishing each one, "are you ready for the next event? are you thinking-I just can't wait to fish this again? You will be able to answer these after just one event I think...both have good things to offer...what will you think?

By the way, I have fished both circuits...

Good Luck ~

you never seem to hear anything negative about AC, but there always seems to be negative things said about FPT. If you want to fish both circuits to decide for yourself, that sounds like a waste of money to make a decision. If you got money, then by all means, take them both for a test drive. But if you have money and don't care about winning money, fish FPT.

Ok, yeah there is Bashing of the FPT (for a reason) I know of some Teams done wrong and I have fished the FPT back in the day so I know first hand and wanna give my 10 cents for this guy that wants an opinon and I will give him my ohnest opinon.

FPT- pulls alot of boats.... has a flashy web site and stats of the anglers and a list of sponsors.....it makes you feel special especially if you are just starting out into bass fishing some guys like that stuff and are only fishing for fun and dont care about the $$$.

AC- pulls alot of boats and is where you wanna fish to compete with the better competition to guage where you are with some of the better fisherman in the area and there is a reason that you will find them mostly here...the PAYOUT$...

There are some good fisherman in the FPT and Sometimes a little too good..... :P

See for yourself and ask around. Check the Payouts on both websites and I am positive you will want to fish AC over the FPT.

Doh!!! You think!

Ruthman don't you have some rods to stock at the Baitbarn!  We know how you feel!! :D I have never been allowed to fish either circuit, and would not even if I could!! ( I have a Conscience) but I have seen enough and know enough to make an intelligent informed decision and if you want the most bang for your buck go with AC! If you just want to get banged go with FPT, and if you really want to have fun fish ABA Motherlode, it is a little more money, but you will know where you stand at the end of the day for sure and have the satifaction of fishing a full flegged "real" team tournament!

sorry to hijack. But I have one question. Why do so many so called Pro guys or teams bash the rookie circuits? I know they did not start on top. How are they going to get better or see if they like this kind of game?

I have fished both FPT and AC semi-pro. Each has pluses and minuses.

FPT:
Pros-Large fields, pre-fish semiars, fishes different bodies of water and a good group of poeple if you take the time to mingle. Vince. Low entry fees. Boat at TOC

Cons-payouts, weight-ins are long, fishes Saturdays (Means taking time off for pre-fish)

AC:

Pros-gives you the option of one body of water or regions that have multiple bodies of water, DANNY PELUSO, many Sunday events, low entry fees, fast weigh ins. Boat at TOC

Cons-smaller fields, sometimes grouped with pro-team events.

I don't have any bad experiences with either, but I know some have and they have legitimate gripes. Some people have an agenda and some have truly had bad experiences. Like Roy D. said above I would give each a try. They are different.
I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

Let's not forget this guy wants to fish the central valley. The Northern region tends to get all the attention and benefits. Granted, they draw more boats but fair is fair. Central Valley Region is actually the mother lode region anyway. The north doesn't have the options mother lode does, therefore draw more boats. The fpt central valley would draw more boats if they there weren't any competing circuits. What does that tell you? veroscop, you haven't replied to any of the post on your topic. did you not get the responses you wanted?

seems to be a ongoing topic.

If you are choosing between these two cicuits.
i first would advise you to look at what bodies of water are on the schedule and what time of year they are on them.
Figure out what suits your style of fishing the best and go that route.
This will increase your ods of success.

Other wise try them both and see what you like.

I fished them both and they are both good events.

One does have a better payback and its not even close in that catagory.

One has a bigger show and draws alot of attension.

I chose one of these two after fishing them by relationship and gut feeling. In the begining I did not pay attention to payback just go fish.
You will like one or the other for your own reason.
I like money when I do well.

If it is a chance to win more money well proof is allready in the pudding.

If you want to feel like your at the FLW or BASS then fish that event.

Both circuits are good for our sport and work harder than you think to run these events.

As far as fishing Pro /Semi Pro/Rookie

I think this is simple some of us have won less than 6k FPT rules and some have won less than 4k WRL rules.

We may be good fishermen but we work 5 days a week.
Many people mix open teams/Pro and semi pro because they can.

When i first started I fished against Dee Thomas,Bobby Barrack,Rich Theil, Rozettis,Robert Lee, Mark Davis, Gary Dobyns and other sticks!

I had no clue how I was donating my money untill I was educated by someone. But i did catch some toads against them! Couldnt fill my sack back then.

I then learned from the semi pro level and have gotten much better over the years, that was my plan. This will be my last year fishing both semi pro and pro mixed and then Im moving up, I have won up to the 4k mark and know its time to move up, but still qualify for semi pro.

Have a plan start club,co-angler,semi pro then pro. Work your way up the ladder. I now know I can compete with the big boys if i take time off work before a event.Im not quite at the smash it out of the park mode yet but I can catch them now! It took a few years of learning planning and networking to get there.

At the end of the day go fish have fun and enjoy our sport.
Fishing a tournament gives us a chance to compete!

good luck!
