Holy crap, got my motor goin...
So I bit the bullet, and changed the impeller and gaskets on my water pump for the outboard myself, emptied the gas, replaced it with fresh, and got her started. Didn't take that long to start which amazed me since it hasn't been started in over a year and a half. I will now have to take 25+ gallons of bad gas to the dump, painful as it was back when gas was $3.80 a gallon when I filled it up. I plan on fogging the engine, I think that's a good idea? Not even sure how to do that. As you may have guessed, I'm not normally mechanically inclined, never did anything like this on a car much less a motor (from fear I'd screw things up rather than fix them). Feels good knowing I did it myself!
So, any further tips from you know how's on what I should do? Any additives or (easy) things I can do to help her perform? (run lol).

Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
What "dump" do you think you are going to take that to? If you think $3.80 was a lot to buy it wait till you pay to get rid of it. Besides the fact that it is EXTREMELY dangerous to transport. Mix it in your car's tank when you fill up. The car can handle it AS LONG AS IT IS CLEAN. No water, dirt, etc.Skunkedagain wrote:I will now have to take 25+ gallons of bad gas to the dump, painful as it was back when gas was $3.80 a gallon when I filled it up.

My local "dump" accepts all chemicals just picked up a flier from them today, including gas. It is mixed with 2 stroke oil so I can't put it in my truck. It is also free to dispose of according to the pamphlet. I wish I had another way..but what else can I do with gas mixed with oil? I've had people tell me to dump it in the sewer but I'm not doing that.

Sorry for confusion, I called it a dump, it's actually the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
It won't hurt your truck.Run it.
Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
Check the limit on amounts. I would still mix it in the truck. Oil will not hurt a bit. Little at a time. Maybe one to four.
Good call on staying out of the sewer. Any idea how dangerous that is? Go slap your buddy that told you to do that.

add some type fuel/ carbon additive : merc quik clean or sea foam or startron to fuel. fog the motor if it will sit for extended time. you pull plugs and spray into cylinder.
also add the marine stabil to gas. if a carb motor pull the fuel line and run the fuel out before storing.

Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
So If I mix it about 1 to 4 in my truck it won't damage the truck? It was mixed 1:50 oil to gas for the motor (2 stroke oil). Top that off with the fact that it is 1.5 year old gas. Last thing I need is my truck going out on me...i'd be dead in the water for my job which I rely on my truck for.
Ya, people are ignorant, i'd never pour it in the sewer, that to me is just common sense.

I honestly would not fog the motor unless you are going to store it again for a long time. You can run some addative through the carbs if it makes you feel better. I think Mercury makes a ring cleaning product thats pretty good. Just make sure your shift rod is in the proper postion before you start off on the water. If it's not set properly your motor could be in forward when you start it. Also make sure there is water comming out the pisser.

My freind mixed over 20 gallons of 2-stroke fuel in his truck after a tourney. Truck ran fine.

What do you think happens when a gas station gets new fuel in their tanks? The old is mixed with the new. Old fuel mostly loses octane. Two stroke oil is made to burn and lube the cylinders as a 2 stroke has no oil bath in the crankcase. Most 4 strokes still burn some oil. That's why the oil level drops. As you said, that stuff is expensive. Just be careful. Storing 25 gallons of gas is VERY dangerous.Skunkedagain wrote:So If I mix it about 1 to 4 in my truck it won't damage the truck? Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
I've ran old 50:1 mixed gas in both a 93 ford truck and my lawn mower, (it did smoke alittle more) and in my 65 mustang.
Only mixed 2.5 gallons to a tank of new gas.
I took a container to the gas station and pored it into the tank then added the new gas.
Never and any problems.
The newer fuel injected engines will compensate and adjust the fuel mixture.

Hmm. Well, the other issue I have is 2 containers (15 gallons or so each) of gas sitting in my garage. How safe is that? I kinda feel taking them to the hazardous waste facility might be the smart thing to do?

Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
There really isn't any dangers storing gas as long as there isn't any vapor leaking and you don't do anything dumb near the tanks.
Where do you live? I will drive my truck over on "E" and you can fill it up. I have no problems running it straight. Year and a half old...no problem. It will burn fine.
Burn that gas in your truck don't dump it.

+1... if you're anywhere around my area, I'll be glad to drive over in my Tahoe and fill up. Free gas is a beautiful thing! You won't even have to pay me to dump it!!!Whoopbass wrote:Where do you live? I will drive my truck over on "E" and you can fill it up. I have no problems running it straight. Dude, one cup of gas equals one stick of dynamite. Pour that down the sewer and you would create a fuel air bomb of epic proportions. I would like to watch that on youtube blow up a whole city...Skunkedagain wrote: I've had people tell me to dump it in the sewer but I'm not doing that.

I didn't pour it down the sewer and never planned to
I seem to have a hot commodity on my hands here...forget free, how about $1.50 a gallon
I trust your all's opinions, but I do find it odd (I don't know anything about engines and what the real difference is) that It's good enough for my truck but everyone tells me to keep it out of my boat motor

Re: Holy crap, got my motor goin...
2 strokes have no oiling systems. They depend on the gas / oil mix for lube and it needs to be right on or the moter will burn up or cold seiz . When gas gets old it loses octain and will burn hoter then it should ie to lean. And the only thing that will Kill a 2 stroke faster then running it to lean is water in your fuel as it will wash / steam the oil off the walls of the eng. A 4 stroke has an oiling system and can take a little water in the fuel and it will b ok and all cars / trucks burn a little eng oil any way
