Mercury 225 ProXs Prop Help

Post by perrysf »

I have a Merc 225 ProXs and I am looking for a new prop. The one I currently have gets my boat on plane in less than 3 seconds but only has a top end of 5000 rpm and roughly 60mph. It is pushing a 20ft Triton. I am looking for a great prop that will push the top end speed and maybe take a bit longer to get on plane. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Perry it might help if you let us now what the blade count and the pitch of your current prop is.

4 blades get you out of the hole quicker and 3 blades will give you more top end

you might also want to give the brand of boat, some of the guys out thier might have the same boat with a screaming prop, and will hopefully pass that information on.

I have a (1999) TR 20 with a 200 opti and its a 4 blade 14 X 24 prop it goes about 65 MPH, but I like the hole shot more than top end. (small so cal lakes)

if you dont know (no offense) 14 X 24 means 14= is prop width in inches and the 24 =is the pitch

hope what little information I posted helps a bit

Perry with the higher RPM range of the Pro XS motor and the Triton 20' boat. I am guessing that it is a TR 20X model boat. You should be able to run the 25 pitch Tempest propeller with very little change to your hole shot.

My concern is why your Pro XS is only running 5000 rpm and what the setup on the boat is like. (engine height, load etc) That motor should run 5800 to 6000 on that boat and up to low to mid seventies top end but you are going to have to drive it. How high are you trimmed with only 5000 rpm's?

Feel free to drop me an pm on what prop and exactly what Triton you have and I can probably help you with your set-up and get you running the way the boat should.

I agree with KB. It sounds more like your set up is wrong. The prop would have to be completely out of the ball park to loose 1000 rpms. The motor is not set high enough or the trim is wrong. Dont over look the obvious too, make sure your throttle is going to wide open.

Scary thing is the "3 second hole shot" would indicate he's not over-propped, so 5000 rpm is way too low.

Dobyns is an expert on the "when to breath" thing. When the Ranger spits you out in the drink you need to know when to breathe.........

You may let Gary help you it is so exciting for him to run another 7 mph that he is used to........

I got your pm and we will hook up and run your boat.
