Carbon monoxide warning stickers

Post by Team Efusjon »

I just paid my boat registration at the Auto Club, and the lady there asked if I have CO warning stickers on the boat. I said no and she gave me some. The little brochure that came with them says one has to be placed near the helm where it's immediately visable to the operator, and the other at the stern or transom. The lady said she's heard some people are getting fined for not having them. She said these stickers have been around for a couple years, but that's the first I heard of them. Anyone else? Is this another way for California to make some money through fines?

They can't be required for outboards, can they?
If so we should make some Stupid Stickers and send them to the state legislature.

I have them on all 3 boats
ones a 12' duck hunting, all are outboards.
I think DVM sent them with the registration 2 years ago, with instructions on where to locate them.
I don't remember getting them somewhere else.
It's because some people have no

I got mine over 5 years ago, while I still had my Tracker. I had to put them on as instructed, as they indicated at the time they were mandatory and boats without would be subject to a fine.

I bought my Z shortly thereafter, and it already had them installed.

I'm sure you can get them from DMV - may even be able to request them online?

Did some digging for you JR, and find that this pamphlet and probably the stickers are produced by the Department of Boating and Waterways... according to the PDF I found, you can call (888) 326-2822 to request the pamphlet and sticker. Not sure is this is still a valid process or not, but worth a try none the less.

Have a safe and happy New Year my friend!

Hey here's one for ya, after reading this I decided to check down at the local DMV and asked about them, which the clerk reached over and handed me a stack of them, 21 to be exact, which I explained I had only the one boat. She didn't seem to be to concerned about how many she gave to me which makes me wonder how important it is to have them on the boat and if it's really enforced.... kind of comical after I thought about it. So for all those needing to have one DMV gives them away like candy. Good luck

Here's the DBW web site that tells about it.

I got mine with my renewal two registration periods ago (4 years?)

The DBW pub does not differentiate between inboard, I/O, outboard, horsepower, or type, they even specifically mentiion inflatables...

IMO, it's not that big of a deal...just get 'em, put 'em on and be done with it...
