AFTERMARKET OUTBOARD WARRANTY?

Post by trailersource »

Just bought an '08 Z-21 with a 250 HPDI and was told it was under warranty still for another year. Just contacted Yamaha to find out I was misled and warranty expired in August '09. Not a big deal as the engine runs fine now, but Yamaha said they can no longer sell me an extended warranty since the motor is out of the original factory warranty. Just wondering if an aftermarket outboard warranty is worth looking into, and if there are any reputable companies someone can refer. Also an estimate as to how much a purchase like this would run. Thanks.

No it is not economical. Just checked for the buyer on my 06 225 E-Tec. $4300 for two years.

How is it possible that a 2008 HPDI does not have a manufacturers warranty? 3rd party warranties suck. Beware!

I had extended warranty on my 98 OPTIMAX thru a company called First Protection, and had several claims with no problems?

I'd give Scott Green at Marine Unlimited, or Mike Van Wagoner a call at Capital CIty Marine and see what your options are if any.

The boat is an '08 but was originally purchased Sept. 2007, and according to Yamaha the HPDI on it only comes with a 2 year factory warranty. I was surprised too.

That is the company that just quoted me $4300 for a 225. If the boat is currently out of warranty you have to get an underwriters approval then have the motor inspected by a dealer. $4300 is a grip for two years coverage.

I checked it out not toolong ago as someone was asking in regards to my boat I had for sale. Nationwide Insurance had a two year extended warranty for about $2400. Your problem may be that the all waranty has lapsed and I don't know if that will effect your ability to get another warranty or the price.

Spoke with the same folks at First Protection Corp. Minn. and they gave me a ballpark figure for an '04 at 4k (2yr) and this was before the underwriters decision. I asked the tourney question and they began to back-pedal, but they also dropped Dobyns name as a reference. Gary are you out there, what do you think?
