Not necessarily too early.
We got some fish for the San Mateo show on Wed. with the electrofishing boat and several fish were already paired up in a shallow flat I typically find beds later in the season. Couldn't see any beds, but they sure did appear to be doing their thing or getting ready to. Those females were real fat in the belly and a few of them including one big girl had a fresh bloody tail, came up with a small male at the same time...
