CBC - Observers wanted

Post by TomL »

If you are interested in being an observer for a CBC event please let us know. You can email us at CalBassChamps at gmail dot com. Let us know which date and lake you are interested in.

Obeservers will be placed on a boat by drawing a poker chip. the number on the chip is the boat they will ride with. Observers will not be permitted to fish - but, they can shoot photographs or videos if they wish.

All lakes and events are open to observers.

Do they get a tackle bag or anything like the HBC?

Tom, I think you should shine on the observer idea.. Either there should be an observer for each angler or none at all.

Maybe your staff can cruise the lake and take photos of the contestants and ask them questions during the day, then your staff can update you as they get info... and maybe they can go from boat to boat for a few mintues or something.... much like The Bassmasters Classic.... that would be cool.

Good input... I doubt we get many observers for anything but the finals.

We will definitely be roaming the lake at the regionals and finals with the camera - streaming the info and the footage live online. We have a few other goodies up our sleeves for the regionals and finals as well. You'll feel as close to a Bassmaster Classic as most of us will ever get! :)

If we get observers I think we should use them - but, since we aren't offering anything for them THIS YEAR - we probably won't get any. But we do plan on having them in every boat at the championship...

See you guys on Friday!

Maybe Rex will help you out with that!!

Why is it a problem having someone in the boat? If you are scared then buy a dog boys. CBC is trying to be different and also do things that might help them grow which will help them and us in the future. This may get some of the other events to fill after an observer see's what it's all about. I say bring them on, I have nothing to hide or worry about!!

+1 Guy. I think its a great idea to keep the integrity of the sport, give guys/gals a chance to see great anglers in action and promote our sport to people who are new to tournaments or fishing. Plus the filming. There is bound to be some great footage and photos! Im with Guy, I have nothing to hide.

I'm for the observers. I will even cater the trip with grub and drinks. I thought that this was part of the whole deal. Need to have observers in my opinion.

I think it's a great idea as well. Just fill bad if somebody comes up expecting to ride with a local pro or guide and gets stuck with a club fisherman like myself. Just my .02

Like I said... Either have them for everybody or for nobody.

I could care less about having an observer in the boat. I can take it or leave it. I just dont think there should be 10 guys with observers and 29 without... Have 39 or none is all Im saying.

Hey Art, since there wont be any observers for this event you can just bring Guy and I the grub and drinks....

See you fellas at DVL on Friday.... LETS GET IT ON!!!!!

I like the idea of the blind draw, it takes the hassle out from the T. D. of placeing some one with everyone but thier is also a small measure of preventative cheating, if you look at it from a tournament Director (T.D.) point of view it a very nice compramise.

In an ideal world someone with everyone is the way to go, but its like playing poker, you play the hand your delt. Good Job Tom !!

I hate the idea. Polygraphs would be much better if your worried about cheating. Many of us have worked 10-20+ years to find our prime fishing spots and techniques, and dont want to just give it away to a guy sitting in the back of the boat taking notes. Not for a 1/1000 chance at $20k.

I tend to agree.

One of the unique features of the CBC that I thought was really, really cool (besides the entry fee) was the "you against the fish by yourself in your boat". Truly leveling the playing field. Adding observers tends to muddy this a bit - unless applied equally to all anglers.

With that said I myself have no problem having an observer in my boat at anytime. They just better not laugh too loudly :D

I could swear I saw your name as an observer at the last HBC on the Delta, maybe Im mistaken. But if Im not it seems a bit hypocritical dont ya think?

FYI
Its been in the rules since day 1. There could be observers placed in your boat at any time.

Either way - I don't think there will be many observers for round 1 - but, for round 2 and/or the finals there will be a good chance you'll have an observer hopefully someone within the press - to gain the anglers and the event some more exposure.

Catching fish in someone's location with their pattern is easier said than done. How many times have you fished a team tournament when you were wacking them and your partner played net boy. I know I have been on both sides of the equation (usually playing net boy). There are so many variables to catching fish....location and techniques are only part of the puzzle..... especially on the delta.

I wish it was closer for me I would be all over it. I have been an observer for a few event's it was fun. I would pay more attention to what the angler was useing and how more than where we were.

At one of these event's up at Clear Lake the angler I was with knew I did not know the Lake at all and went out of his way to show me some spot's to fish becouse I did bring my boat with me.

He even showed me on his meter the rock pile's to look for and what land marks to line up to narrow down the area.

We had a few offers for observers but, not enough to really make a difference, I believe 3 total offers across 16 lakes. So in an effort to keep this thing as fair as possible - we are not going to have observers for the local events. I really didn't expect any offers to be observers (and thank you goes out to those of you who offered).

However, as planned THERE WILL BE observers and polygraphs at the regional and the State Championship.

See you all on Friday.

+1 mike. The main reason I signed up is because I have always wanted to fish a tourn. with only me in the boat. No distractions, no talking, no waiting to move, just fishing. I don't have a problem with the draw but I agree the polygraph is effective.
