Young Guns at Pardee Media Day

Post by kb »

This Sunday we will once again spend the day with the top outdoor writers from across the West on Lake Pardee. This year we will have the usual line-up of "old guys" but we have turned back the clock some and brought in the "Young Guns of the West" to figure out Pardee's trophy Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. Here are just a few of the West's best youth:

Zack Thompson: 2009 FLW National Guard Pro Angler of the Year

Cody Meyer: 2009 FLW Stren Series Angler of the Year

RJ Bennett: 2009 Anglers Choice Pro Angler of the Year

Chris Zaldain: FLW Forrest Wood Cup Qualifier

Taylor Parsons: 2009 FLW National Guard CoAngler of the Year

Bub Tosh: Paycheck Baits Punch Skirt Inventor and former FLW Forrest Wood Cup Co-Angler Champion

Matt Allen: One of the top Big Bait Specialists in the state

Yea we are letting in the old guys too like Alan Fong, Dean Mcdaniel the guys that caught the 9 pound smallies at our first Media Day. Big Bait expert Russ Graves, Finesse Specialist John Maes, Western Tournament Vet's Tony Franceschi, Mark Lassagne, Corey Fenske and more. We might need help so we have gotten the top team angler in the Mother Lode Kyle Rasmussen to show up too!

Look for some great coverage of the event and more from the best names in the outdoors in the upcoming weeks.

Yes Mark in fact they do a full Quagga inspection at the ramp and have every year we have done the event. Last year the Department of Fish and Game even brought down their Quagga dogs that are trained to sniff out invasive species for a demonstration with all the media the morning prior to fishing.

We have even had one boat put on the sideline at media day last year due to a small amount of water in the livewell drain.

Media Day is Clean and Dry!!!!!!

Sorry to put a kink in your fun guys, put i have a huge gripe !

WHY PARDEE ?

for years a years the boys and i would haul our gregor to that little gem a a lake and have a blast catching small mouth and large mouth with a trout or Kookine thrown in for good measure.

On a weekend we would see maybe one bass rig on the lake , mostly trout and kookine fishermen, doing there thing.

When i bought our bass boat in 99, pardee was the first place we went and again it was a quiet place to fish, not huge numbers of fish but they were there if you knew were to look.

Now the lake reminds me of its big sister Comanche just up the river. A once trophy fishery that is virtually dead due to over fishing and recreation.

What makes me ask the question WHY PARDEE ? WHY NOT SOME PLACE ELSE MORE DEVELOPED LIKE NEW MELONIES OR ?

I am not saying don't have your media circus but if ya got to pick on a little lake and mess it up, why don't ya go some place else and leave the little gems alone to sleep in peace.

just my $.02 worth
Yeah ? It's Me Again, SO WHAT!!!!!

All about the spotlight, big fish, big names. You should have it on Folsom and show the media your true talent. :P

Well Guy here ya go! I really don't think that Media Day put any more anglers on that lake than the "new" state record smallmouth did, the episodes of Fun Fishing or all the magazine articles years prior to the media day. This is not a new idea and has been done on many of the lakes in So. Cal since the 70's.

Now for the reason that we chose this lake is because the private owners of the Pardee Recreation Area (EBMUD ownes the lake but they own the concession) wanted to do something that got the word out about their lake. You see nobody up there, nobody visiting and nobody camping or fishing was costing them MONEY.

They are a year long advertiser on Ultimate Bass and California Sportsman and advertising their lake while they are closed from November to February wasn't a good idea either so we came up with a contest to let listeners join us, create some interest in both the lake and Jackson Rancheria Casino Hotel that is nearby. Get some people excited to head up there for the opening every February like they used to, the first Friday in February is the opening and the crowds had really dropped off over the years. Project Kokanee holds one of it's biggest events on that lake in May with over 150 boats.

Yes we could go to Melones or Folsom or Clear Lake or wherever and just as soon as you bring me a resort that wants to be a year long advertiser on my show we are in! You can even go!

It is about business and Pardee Recreation Area is looking to promote their business, their resort, restraurant, boat rentals and more. Jackson Rancheria wants to promote their proximity to great lakes, RV park, hotel, gaming and all they offer. The media day has raised awareness at this lake with all parties involved and they have even put up a regulation now that all bass tournaments (club tournaments) have to release their fish out of the marina area so the bass are not so easy to catch from the bank anglers.

Hope this explains the why's that you were concerned with....

Hey KB how come Johnny C. isnt on your list? Not trying to start any b.s. but he contributes a lot to the site and is a heck of a stick. He would be a great addition to your line up IMO.

I like that its on Pardee. The lake is closed to all for months before time and it can be a great example of what no pressure can do for a body of water. The WR smallmouth being from the lake is a bonus(thats a damn huge smallie) Cant wait to hear about the day.
Fishing should be fun.

Well today couldn't have been better. The weather was awesome, the lake beautiful and for a few of us the fish cooperated pretty well. Taylor Parsons the 2009 FLW National Guard Co-Angler of the Year took us all to school on his home lake. Taylor had five for about 24 with a smallmouth over 6 and a largemouth over 9.

There were several big largemouth with another 9 pounder weighed by Earl Dalton and some beautiful 3-5 pound smallmouth. The media guys were there from all over the west, all the magazines, webpages and papers had a representative there.

Our host's once again this year was Bo Marx and Earl Dalton of Jackson Rancheria Casino where they treated us all like rock stars and hosted an awesome dinner and Richard and Carrie Cooper of Pardee Lake Recreation Area and they even had a Tri-tip and awesome chili lunch for everyone when we came off the water.

There will be coverage coming out on the event in all the publications and on my radio show.

Pardee opens to the public this Friday. Jigs and small swimbaits in 20-60 feet were the best bites.

Absolutely AWESOME event.

Thanks to everyone for a terrific experience and a special thank-you to my pro Alan Fong. I was VERY, VERY fortunate to spend the day with such a knowledgeable, friendly fisherman. Spectacular.

I sure hope they enforce this because last year it remained a problem even after all the media hype. I'd suggest that tournament weigh ins be done on one of them floating crappers. Keep the bass out of that 5mph area period. The bigger issue here is that there is no place to dock boats during a weigh-in. I hope Pardee monitors this because it remains a huge issue here! :(

Pardee will do their part to help enforce this and if your club is fishing Pardee this year your tournament director also needs to be made aware of it. They will work with you as well and even if you weigh in at the marina you should load the fish up and take them out past the 5's at the marina. This also has to be policed by all the clubs and organizations.
