Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
Welcome in. First and foremost, I'd suggest that you try using the Search button, as there are years' worth of opinions and discussions on those topics to help make an educated decision.
Second suggestion is to be sure to go to a shop that carries all of the brands you are interested in, and actually get your hands on them and check them out for yourself. What one person prefers might not fit with someone else's needs.
Good luck with your shopping decisions, and congratulations on becoming a Nutcase!

Yep. Your best bet is to go to your local tackle shop with your favorite reel and feel all of the rods. Thats the only true way to decide. Asking here will just get you a bunch of opinions from sponsored guys tring to sell you their brand.

Dobyn's rods will give you more for your money. To start with they were designed by a world class bass fisherman. That alone should make Doybn's Rods stand out above the other two companies. I quess this question came from a bass fisherman "RIGHT".
Doybn's rods are built better in materail and in design. Gary Dobyn's made sure of that himself. At the ISE Sacramento show I spent over an hour and a half listening to Gary describe with passion how and why he thinks he has made the best rods in the industry. I think he has; I also think he will take over the rod industry by storm.
I would also let you know that your customer service and warranty issues are very important to Gary Dobyn's. He wants to know everything he can about his rods and his customers concerns. See if you can get that from the other companies owners. Gary appreciates your business and your relationship with him and his company. I believe the Dobyn's Rod company just gives you more for less.

Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
In limiting this discussion to these three manufacturers, you have to rate the three in two or three different categories.
1) Sensitivity
2) Price
3) Fishability (balance and comfort)
4) warranty
as for 1), I have fished with all three and would rate the Loomis IMX/GLX (MBR series only) as the most sensitive of the three. The Dobyns Gen2 Champion/Gen2 Champion Extreme come a close second to the GL rods. I think the Lamiglas rods are really not that sensitive at all.
For 2), The IMX is ABOUT the same as the Champion series. The GLS, MBR series of is about the same price as the Champion Extreme series. The Lamiglas XMG50 are about the same as the IMX ...
#3, fishability, I'd have to rate the Dobyns highest. Though I love the IMX/GLX rods, they are balanced a bit forward. It CAN be fixed with a butt cap though. Forget about the certified pro!
#4, both the Dobyns and Loomis have about the same warranty as far as replacement cost. The Dobyns have an over the counter deal, where as the Loomis, you'll have to send it in and if they have it in stock. The rods get replaced quickly ... if not in stock, you wait ... who knows how long.
So the bottom line, the long answer to your question is probably a close call between Loomis and Dobyn's. I'd probably give the Dobyns the slight edge do to balance though!

Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
It seems like I always hear "it's as good as a Loomis" so that should tell you something....But I agree with Mike go check them all out and make a decision, problem is checking them out in the store is not equal to checking them out on the water. I would try to borrow one from a friend and go fish with it to see how they perform, because bottom line they are all pricey and you need to be happy with it. That said my OPINION is nothing even comes close to a Loomis IMX / GLX
Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
ISN'T THE REAL QUESTION :
CAN I GET SOMETHING FOR LESS $ THAT IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS
G. LOOMIS GLX?
NO!!
SO IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT-- BUY THE BEST....IF NOT, SOME OTHERS COME 'CLOSE'.

Best advice given all year, put em in your hands and fish them. If you are really on the fence speak to some sponsor guys about trying out a rod.Mike wrote:Yep. Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
All three make great fishing rods. I use all three myself. What I'm asking now as I invest my money is where are these things I'm buying made? If I can I try and buy strickly products made in USA. Some times I don't have an option, but if I can I will always buy made in USA. When I go to buy my next crankin rod I will be asking all three vendors mentioned as to where are there rods made and or the parts, grips, guides, blanks etc. So in the end hopefully I'll end up with a good fishing rod and some one else will still have a job.

+1 Every rod maker goes through changes. At the end of the day it's the rod makers customer service that can make the difference which rod you choose.tunaman wrote:Welcome in. Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
I have one 704 Lamiglas Certified Pro, one Loomis Swimbait Rod but have used almost all loomis rods because my family are loomis folks, and 3 gen 2 Dobyns rods, 736 frog rod, 765 flip, and 701 spinning extreme dropshot rod.
After using all these rods, I am not a G-Loomis fan. They are senstive, no doubt about it, but to me comfort is the most important aspect of a rod.
For that reason Dobyns gets my vote. I only have one rod that I think is superior and that is my one loan Steez that I just bought. There is only one thing that worries me about Dobyns rods and that is warranty. They have a great warranty and stand behind there products but because they are fairly new to the market, I worry some day Dobyns rods may not be around, making my warranty...well you know.

Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
I was a "G. Loomis guy" for close to 20 years...figured I always would be. Don't get me wrong, still own a passel of them and I still use them every outing. Having said that, the last five sticks I have purchased have been from Dobyns. Looking at buying two more in the near future. Started with a 795 SB ML and liked it so much the others just followed. I agree with the positive comments regarding Gary's customer service. I had one small problem and it was handled lightning fast. One aspect of customer service no one has mentioned that I really appreciate is being able to contact Gary directly in regards to questions about his rods either before or after the purchase and receiving an immediate response. I have never seen that aspect and/or level of service. Great product line and unparalled service = easy choice for me.

Re: loomis vs dobyns vs lamiglas???
I haven't used all of the listed choices, but I can recommend Dobyn's gen 2 rod with confidence and I can recommend Diawa casting reels too. I do use alot of Revo's but last year a bought two of the anniversary edition diawa's and have been very happy with them.
Of the Dobyn's rod s I have the 702 spinning gen 1 ,736c , 744c,784c, 704cb glass, and an 807 gen 1.
I've liked them all, but since I don't do as much big swimbaits, I'd probably go 795 SBMT next time.
