A WOW or a WTF at DVL..
I borrowed this from another forum..
"To the 2 guys that rammed their "deluxe" rental full speed on the rocky shoreline near the quarry:
Thanks for the hour long entertainment while we watched you try to dig out the motor that was now sitting in an inch of water, while the bow of the boat was 10 feet from the shore. If the "Boat Long Jump" was an event in the Olympics, you might have won the Gold!
You really did a good job getting a lot of "hang time" and vertical height when you launched the boat onto land, and the judges that were watching in sheer amazement gave your performance a 9.5. The smoke and dust plume that came from your motor on impact was a great touch, as was rolling up ur pant legs in an inch of water, while using your oar to dig out your still smoking motor. A little hint, though: you can't dig a boat out that is sitting on dry land, but a valiant effort none the less.
We asked if you needed some help, but your manhood would not allow it and you waved us off. Bravo for taking the personal responsibility to not accept help in getting out of a situation you put yourself in.
Thank you again, for making the drive and the bad day of fishing completely worth it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1u1NS5nwrI
(And on a serious note)
When the dock workers ask if you have any questions on how to operate a boat, you may want to ask questions here. You're lucky you ran into shoreline, and not into another boat which may have caused property or bodily damage."
- (Rod speaking) On another note why does this guy (the guy shooting the footage) have a full "Tourney Jersey" on while FUN fishin in a RENTAL boat.. Thats another WTF!

That shirt literally is Aaron Martens'. Has his name on it and everything.
The other guy had a pretty sick shirt on... Under Armour fishing - haven't seen that before.
As for the jokers in the boat on land - at least they were on a good spot on the lake. From what I remember that point is good fishing!

Re: A WOW or a WTF at DVL..
I think the shame of it is that other boats did not come to give assistance, and stood around and laugh. I thought there was maritime obligation to give assistance to vessles in distress?
Yeah these guys were knuckleheads and it cost them dearly, but to video tape and laugh at them instead of offering assitance or notifying the marina is less then dignified.

Also could have gotten the jersey from ESPN/BASS? They give Elite jerseys away as prizes some times for their fantasy game. A friend of mine got a autograghed Jeff Kriet jersey awhile back from them.

Ash, in the first post they said they offered assistance, but the guys didnt want it, so they just videoed for entertainment. What are you supposed to do when you offer help and the guys refuse? They even called authorities and reported it.

Another reason to have ALL boater and jet skiiers take a boaters safety course to get LICENSED just like a vehicle.I get tired of reading about people getting hurt or killed because they dont know how to control their watercraft !!!!!!!!

The person in question wearing the Aaron Marten jersey received that jersey as a gift from Aaron's mother Carol Martens. He is not wearing it to pretend to be someone he is not. He knows who he is.

I'm with Ash on this one. While the boat driving skills of the first party leave a lot to be desired, to hang around videotaping their misfortune and then post it on youtube is totally classless.
And yeah, I know that they refused help but so what? Maybe they didn't think the other boat could do much to help out.

They did offer assistance to help them and he did get the shirt from Carol Marten's like Art said. So does that mean when you wear a hat, shirt, or have a sticker on you are a "weekend pro". You wonder why tournament fishing has such a bad rap with us "weekend pro's".

Re: A WOW or a WTF at DVL..
Wow, never thought I'd have my first post on Western Bass be surrounding THIS incident, but here goes.
First, let's replay the incident that occurred that day. We were in the channel that leads into the quarry when we noticed the boat heading towards land, and the occupants making no effort to swerve or slow down. After impact, we assumed the 4 or 5 boats that were in the area closer to the shored vessel would motor closer to check on the beached boat, but nobody did so. After 5 minutes, we trolling motored our way towards them and beached our boat and
1. Asked if they were ok.
2. Asked if they needed us to call anybody.
3. Asked them if they needed assistance.
We were given blank stares, followed by a "no we're ok, we've got everything under control" so we went on our merry way. I'm sure the bystanders witnessed these chain of events.
I guess there are those that think we should have gone against their wishes for not wanting help and assisted anyway. Even EMTs aren't forced to help individuals even if its a life and death situation if the individual refuses help.
45 minutes elapsed, and the individuals were in the same predicament as before, and going no where fast.
We motored past them AGAIN, and once AGAIN asked them if they needed any help, just to have them wave us off a second time.
After 15 more minutes of them struggling, we ignored their non-pleas for help and took it upon ourselves to call the marina and let them know there was a boat in need of assistance. We also asked if any other calls had come in regarding the beached boat, and not surprisingly, they said no other calls had come in and we were the first. I guess those that are coming down on us should also come down on those that sat around for an hour doing nothing.
So if asking them TWICE if they needed assistance, and then CALLING to get help to them wasn't help enough, i apologize for not having a tug boat ready to get these guys out of the situation they got themselves in. I mean, considering that there were other boats around and nobody lifted a finger, why is the animosity coming down on us?
AND if their boat wouldve made a beeline for one of your nice boats instead of the shoreline and caused major damage to your rig, I guarantee you'd be singing a different tune, other than calling us "classless." As someone mentioned before, this is another example of what happens when inexperience escapes what couldve been a more serious situation.

Regarding the Aaron Marten's jersey? Yes it's Aaron's and he wore it during the 2008 season and all I did was ask if I could aquire one. You never know what people may do when you simply ask. I have his Crown Royal jersey as well, since the guy is one of the few guys I look up to on the Bassmaster's tour. I used to go into Turners in the valley when he was working there back in the day, and he was never one to hold back information and techniques. Along with Dick Trask, who I still shout out whenever I hook a split shot fish, Aaron was a big influence on how I approach the water whenever I'm blessed with that opportunity and I like to wear it with pride.

Re: A WOW or a WTF at DVL..
Seriously Ash what else are they suppose to do? The only thing that is common sense is the fact that these "Boaters" didn't want the Marina to find out and wanted to put the boat back in the water as swiftly as possible. Of course they didn't want DS to call the Marina. The Marina has their credit card, last thing the "Boaters" want is their wives to find out they just bought a broken down Triton boat. And even worse an Evinrude engine.....
