Thinking about taking a trip to Mohave here soon. Last time I fished this lake was during the RedMan events in early 2000's
Has this fishery changed for the good like Havasu and Mead? Are the Smallmouth making a name for themselves?
Thanks in advance
Tony
Mohave?
Re: Mohave?
This is the toughest lake in desert chain! Fished it the last three years and its not easy to get on the fish.... Especially in the winter!
Re: Mohave?
Serious?
That sucks, how is the Smallmouth in that lake?

It's fishing the same, in my opinion. I have not fished the lake in over 2 years up to a couple weeks ago. Went back to the same stuff and the fish were holding in the same areas. I have heard there has been some "habitat" planted in some parts by some people, not our fish n game of course, and if you can find that !!!!

Tony, the fishing on Lake Mohave is the same as when you fished it in the old Red Man days. Tough!!!!! Late March and early April are the only time to fish this body of water!!! Right now Lake Havasu is the best lake on the Colorado River that you want to fish!!!!
Re: Mohave?
Darius is correct, very tough in the winter, but can catch some really nice fish, just have to go deep and slow (15-45 ft) Jigs and dropshots are all you need. Smallies are there, but not in any great numbers. The south end by Katherines has most of the smallmouth population. The habitat that Andy is talking about was put in by fish and game and the local BASS Federation (our club and others. Boyscouts too). They are doing an extensive recovery of the razorback sucker. Doesn't help us, but they are out there doing some things. The habitat is awesome, and holding some good fish. It has only been put in two coves.

Hey Brent, I sit corrected. Our DFG actually allowed/participated in a fish enhancement program? They must have been bored. Still very positive step forward for them/us.

Re: Mohave?
I disagree.... late February and the first week or two of March is when you see most of the 20lb sacks come from Mohave... A tough lake no doubt, but a great one to go if you are looking for good size compared to Mead.. not many small fish on Mohave... if you get bit, its usually in the 3-4lb range.
Right now the water is WAAAYY up and crystal clear. Temperature is low 50s and fish can be found spread out shallow in the backs of the coves up in the big lumber and deep as well.

Andy,
there are two different fishery biologist (one for Mead and one for Mohave). The Mohave guy has been given permission to build and set habitat in two coves, and two coves only. That is the only downer!! Since Mohave only fluctuates 13 to 15 feet a year, they feel the habitat will be more successful on Mohave. There were loads of Christmas trees there last year as well, don't know where those ended up. Chris is right about he water now and there is always fish shallow when the water rises, they are just a little weary.
to the original poster, Tony: Just go!! I love Mohave, it is tough, but like Chris said, the quality is nice! It aint Havasu, so don't expect numbers
