Best lens color for Fishing Glasses
Okay, I have a nice pair of Costa Del Mar's but with BTD having a 20% Sale for the next couple days I wanted to pick up a pair of Solar Bats. I have heard good things, and they look cool
. What color lens for all around fishing (reg. fishing, bed fishing, low light, bright light, etc.)?

Re: Best lens color for Fishing Glasses
It's hard for me to pick a single best color. Without a doubt, my two favorites are grey and amber. I like the amber for low light conditions and the grey when it's sunny. There are some others like green or copper that do well in certain conditions as well. If I had to choose one it would be a grey lens. I use grey the most often and it works well in a variety of conditions. Also, I highly recommend checking out the eyesurrender glasses while you're on BTD.

another vote for amber!!! All around, best color...

Amber/Brown/Copper are usually synonomous depending on the company.
Grey or Mirrored lenses are nice for bright days, but even them I usually stick with the copper lenses.

Sight fish at Lake Mead in the bright sun for 10 hours with amber and you will need a seeing eye dog the next day. But take out the desert or those first bright, (high pressure) days following a storm front in SoCal, and you would have to choose amber. It delivers the best contrast, but, of course, it blocks less light.
Re: Best lens color for Fishing Glasses
I'm with Kramer, Amber and Copper fron Eyesurrender are my favorites. Amber was never a color I thought of in the past but I found that it is really effective in the conditions Kramer mentioned.and Copper on bright days, really bright grey or green.

Kramer,
I fish nothing but Mead and Mohave in the bright sun and never feel that way. Actually Optomitrists will tell you that brown colored lenses are much easier on the eyes and have more protection than grey. Again, that is what my Dr told me. I wear presctiption so mine are custom made and had them tinted a little darker amber than normal, so maybe that is why I don't feel that way. I wish I could tell you a brand better than another, but all I get to buy are the frames.

Re: Best lens color for Fishing Glasses
I won't argue with your doctor, though he defies others, including the one who performed cataract surgery on me at age 50. We're all different. And there may be issues with regard to mere lens color versus shade density and UV protection that we're not factoring in.

Re: Best lens color for Fishing Glasses
totally agree Mr. Kramer, I think that is why he shaded mine darker, that would make more sense (density). I drive with dark grey though (hypocrite, huh?)....all I know is my amber lenses are awesome, I see fish others can't...

Re: Best lens color for Fishing Glasses
I read an article a while back and it stated that everyone's eyes are different and what is best for one is not the best for another. The same is true for two different sight fisherman: One guy can see the bed fish and his partner standing next to him cannot. I have tried all colors and gray or moss green work the best for me. I use both Oakley and Kaenon and the Oakley's are darker than the Kaenons. No matter what color lens you get, one of the best investments is a quality pair. Copper or Amber will brighten things up on a dark morning, and the greys and greens will block more light. It comes down to what you like and can afford...

Solar Bat "Mossback" is not just a "Green" lens it's a combination of blue, yellow, grey and amber... and the new "Mossback" gradient lens does it all.
